Systematic approach for removing luck in 9-ball

Prior to the break....

Breaker must call which balls he will pocket on the break and which pockets. If he plans to pocket 2 balls, he must call both and their pockets. If he makes the wrong number of balls on the break, it is his opponent's shot.

Before breaking, he must also call each of the remaining balls and their appropriate pockets, all prior to breaking.

If he plans on banking, jumping, or kicking a ball at any time in the rack, he must call that prior to breaking. If you had planned to shoot a ball straight in, but you end up forced to bank it, that involves luck.

Any deviation from this, and luck has entered the game. This is the style of game that involves no luck.

Some people say they do not want luck in 9-ball, but they only say so up to a certain point.

Yeah, somehow I don't see that happening....ever

If your a Seasoned player, you can play hundred's of games of pool without lucking in any balls.

I find that players without much knowledge of the game tend to Luck balls in the hole!

there is more to luck than slopping balls in there are lucky rolls youre opponent gets after missing a shot and getting a great accidental safe.

16 posts and getting better all the time. I look forward to your official bound draft of the no luck 9 ball rules. Good luck.

I play a guy that is so damn lucky.

Every time he makes a ball, he gets lucky and is lined up to make the next one........

This proposition is very loosely based on reality. :D

The soft break in 9-ball was a great way to reduce the luck factor of the game. But that got promptly outlawed in many competitions. :(

I think the break in 9ball is skill,I M H O. call all shots w/ the incoming player having the option on a miss will take most of the luck out of 9ball.

There is NO such thing as luck.

I just need to know how to get over my frustrations of playing lucky players. For example, normally when I play my wife if she misses I have no shot. We played earlier today and I had to do 3 kick shots in a row after her misses. They were all good hits and the last kick even went in and I ran out, but I would guesstimate that her missing and leaving me no shot happens over 50% of the time we play.

I appreciate a good safety, and even a two way shot that if you miss your opponent most likely won't have a shot. But missing shots and getting lucky and leaving your opponent bad repeatedly drives me mad!

Oh yeah almost forgot as I got carried away with my rant. Your rules leave no room for lucky rolls, so luck is still a factor.

As for calling banks, jumps, kicks, and all shots before the break? You would have to be clairvoyant to do that. Nobody can predict how a rack will break & predict a full run out before they break. Pool will always have some sort of luck involved. Its impossible to remove, although I did like the rules of the 10-ball at SBE where they had to call whether they were making a ball or playing a defense.

Systematic approach to removing luck in straight pool

Prior to the opening break, the winner must declare which pocket each of the balls will fall in. He must also declare precisely the number of balls he plans to run. He must submit all 150+ shots in writing with diagrams....

Dumbest thread ever....

your wife's not lucky, she's better than you, just ask her, she'll confirm this.
