Szamboti Hat

Ok, here is an auction on ebay for a Szamboti hat

"SIGNED AND SHIPPED BY CUE BUILDER BARRY SZAMBOTI"

But the funny thing about this is last year I bought one when it first popped up on ebay (the guy had several) and a day after I bought it they were pulled because Szamboti had complained to ebay that he didn't authorize it.

Now I see this hat and they are identical except the color. Mine says "Szamboti Custom Cues" on the front and "The Tradition continues" on the back.

So did Szamboti stop some guy from selling hats with his name and then copy the guys design or did this guy steal the design from Szamboti and beat him to the punch.

Hi Jeff
I'm the one selling the hats for Barry. As stated in the discription and title The hat Is The Officail Hat - Shipped from and By Barry Szamboti - A COA letter will be Included. I run thecueman.com for Barry and some of his very close friends. Jeff you are member on thecueman.com. We do not play games and never break promises....remember the Cues we gave away for free on the Scratch Off Game.

Well anyway this Hat is the Hat for 2008 By Barry Szamboti. If there is anyway more information needed to help with authenticity let me know and I will try to edit discription. Sorry about the messed up discription on ebay, but ebay has been unforgiving in editing and making chages.

Thank You
George The Cue Man

I have no doubt the hat is authentic. My question is aimed at the fact that the hats that were banned last year from being sold and the new "official" hats are an EXACT match.

Just seems a little odd..... and convenient..........

The same thing happened with me a couple of years ago with Szamboti towels that had a ring to attach to the cue case.
The problem was that the seller was not authorized to sell Officially License Szamboti Paraphernalia.

If the hat comes up for sale, I would love one!

jeff, this seems to be the same person associated with that other forum we tried. remember barry was rumored to be associated with that site so i believe this to be true. i have already bid and will bid at the end. hopefully if this one goes well there will be more.

I actually like the one I have (the banned hat) better.

Your banned hat is way better than the officially licensed versions. If I were you, I'd be sending my hat to Barry for authentication. Maybe the new hats are Barrys, and you have a Gus!

This hat I got at VF two years ago and I had Barry approve it. There were some fakes out there and Barry so f#*!&en' pissed. I wanted to be sure I had one that was OK.

I have to ask BArry about that to be sure, but I'm pretty sure there were a few people trying to cash in on the szamboti name and were told to stop. Barry did have a hat that he gave to friends and customers ( like me :), but they are goe and these are the ones he picked. The layout has been done about 8 months to a year ago but we just got aroung to try putting them out there. I will talk to Barry about any hats people have and were they came from. Send me pics and I'll send them to barry, but remember he is very busy building cues.
I'l try to answer any questions everyone has, but it is hard when someone is showing me something we over here have not seen ouf self. Yhis is new selling a collectable item online. we are poolplayers and cue builders, so your input is very important to us.

Thanks
George

Message from Barry

sent an email to barry asking whether he wanted post a comment on these hats and so here it is:

"If you would, please just post that I am going to sign the hat, if the buyer wants me to. But that I am not running the sale. If people don't want this I will stop it. I'm not profitting from this, nor do I care to."

This is just plain INSANE. What real value does an "authentic" Szamboti baseball hat have. You can go to any mall in America and have this hat made for about $25.00 bucks or less. Who cares if it is a "real" Szamboti? What the hell is a "real" Szamboti baseball cap?

Shouda Couda and Wouda ....

Besides playing pooll I love collecting. I collect Pool Cues, Tattoo Machines and Guitars. (Also love to build them) Most importantly when I look to purchase something that will or may increase in value I think of all the time that I said or someone else said "I could of, or I should of"....hmmm
As I got older and better at it I thought out of the box and started collecting the Bussiness Cards of many famous people who put thier hard work into things along with signatures, letters, COA's, things they would throw away or abandon....you know why? Because Those thinks are touched and were invloved in some part of that persons process of who he or she was.
OK what the hell I'm I talking about. I keep a collection of tattoo machines Bussiness Cards and Reciepts. I have so many people who will offer me mucho bucks for those stupid little things. Who ever thought that would happen. If you are old enough you would remember the Wrapper Baseball Cards came with. On the back of the wrappers were a mini poster of the player signed. I saved thousands of them. They were ripped off the baseball cards and discarded. I sell those wrappers to collectors for more money then cards!!!!
Someone quoted wow that what is what Gus sold his cues for in the day! Your right, bet you wish you bought a lot of those cues!!!
Well here we are year 2008 and those cues are not hundreds of dollars anymore but tens of thousands in some cases. When a cue buyer buys a cue today from a great cuemaker you bet he saves the reciept, the postmarked box...whatever. It Authentics and and becomes part of the persons history and is very valuable or Loved by the person who owns it.
Anyone can make up any reason not to buy something, and some people who collect, want to be part of something special or historic.
This is just my opnion and one of the ways I collect things I LOVE. A lot of things I buy I buy in twos one to use proudly and one to put away for my children to show to another collector when I'm not around anymore.

It's a little late for me as I write this post so excuse my sloppy reasoning, but I did want to share this with my fellow pool players and Collectors.

Thank You for reading my post
George

This illiterate post makes as much sense as somebody paying $103.51 for that hat. I think what he was attempting was to explain why someone paid that price. What I don't understand is why he needs to justify his sale. He got his money and now can post the next of many hats to follow.

If I had the money, I would buy every one of them. I hear the friggin hit on them ROCKS!

I can't tell you the amount of times when a Szamboti was in a room and it struck a ball, and someone would shout out "Sounds Like a Szamboti" LOL

I tend to agree withThe Cue Mans reasoning about collecting,I only glanced at it but it makes sense since I have seen things like this increase in value.I have photgraphs signed by Ted Williams,Joe Di Maggio,Dereck Jeter and others that are worth a lot more than a duplicate would be.

I spoke briefly with Barry and the hat is legit and he has no intention of getting in the hat business.I will bet that the owner of the hat gets his money worth,in fact I will pay $100 for one signed with a picture like this one.

As a caution to the man on a budget,I have been known to lose money on some of my ideas, but one thing is 1005% sure ,Barry will never do anything underhanded with his or his fathers name,on this you can be sure. When Barry is involved you can count on his integrity.
