I used some black water buffalo horn for ferrules and joints about 20 years ago. I never thought much of the material myself. It was sort of translucent and had a texture similar to finger nails.

Does it look just like Juma to you chaps as well?

It is similar to Juma. It cuts well, threads well. It's harder than ABS but not as hard as melamine.
