table cleaning??

I would like to know what type of vacuum everyone uses on there table to keep it clean. I wanted to buy a Dirt Devil.......but passed because of the brushes. I wasn't sure if it would harm the cloth or not.

Or does everyone just brush their tables?

I've been using my Kirby for almost two years now without harming my table. I attach the hose on it and use the brush attachment. The brush keeps the head far enough away from the cloth so that the cloth won't get sucked up into it and pull away from the slate. After I vacuum the cloth I take a damp rag (very well wrung-out and preferably the approximate same color as the cloth) and gently wipe the cloth down. I leave the overhead light on until the cloth is dry and I'm good to go. I've tried one brand of cloth cleaner (David Hodges' Quick-Clean) and it works okay, but no better than the above method. And the method I use (and I believe that many people use this method) is cost-free if you already have a decent vacuum cleaner w/attachments. Good luck!!!

I use an Oreck hand vac that I bought for the specific purpose of cleaning the table. It does a good job and I can't see any evidence that the brush is hurting the cloth.

I use a tank type vac with a brush tool (not the rotating brush) but I open the valve on the wand slightly to reduce suction.

I don't use a rotating brush because A) friction = wear and B) pool cloth has little "nap" and it is unnecessary to beat the fabric to dislodge the grit as is the case with carpeting.

I don't use a damp cloth because it shouldn't be necessary and it adds a LOT of "humidity" to the cloth that takes far longer to truly dry than many people think.

When ambient humidity is high, the cloth doesn't FEEL damp...is just IS damp.

Overhead lights in typical set ups don't put out very much heat to dry the moisture.

I use the Red Devil with brushes. No problems in 8 years... the first 3 years was dialy use. Now I mix it up with vac, brush, Quick Clean with microfibre cloth.
