Table Measurement Question

Atthecat, thanks, bro. So the 50 X 100 is the inside dimensions measured from cushion nose to cushion nose in both the length and the width. And the cushions themselves nor the surface under the cushions counts in the 50X100.

Then how is the 4 1/2 by 9 (54" x 108") measured? I think this is where the ghost cushion RKC was talking about comes in to play, but I don't get it because if you add the length of the cushions (2" for each rail) then you are adding 4" to each measurement which ends up being 54" X 104". What's up wit dat ghost cushion thingy?

If you have 2 cushions in your left hand, and you double them to your right hand, that's 4 cushions....right?:D So, 2 cushions at 2" wide plus 50" equals 54" and if you double that, it equals 108" consisting of (4) cushions plus 100" which equals 9'ft. But, as everyone knows, pool tables only have 2 end rail cushions, so therefore 2 of them (4) cushions don't appear on the table, so I call them ghost cushions:p If you just simply ordered cloth to cover a 50x100 playing area to recover your pool table...there would be no rail cloth included, so you have to include the true area of the playing area, not just the playing surface, in order to get enough cloth to include recovering the cushions as well;)

Gotcha, but just to be clear, the playing surface is measured from cushion nose to cushion nose in both directions, and that's supposed to be 50X100, right Glen?

And this measurement does not include any part of the bed that is visible under the cushions, nor the part of bed that disappears under the cushion nor any part of the cushions themselves, even though these are all parts that are clothed.

If 3 1/2' by 7'= 42" x 84"...then why is a 40" x 80" playing surface called a 7ft table?

If 4' by 8'= 48" x 96"...then why is a 44" x 88" playing surface called an 8ft table?

If 4 1/2' by 9'= 54" x 108"...then why is a 50" x 100" playing surface called a 9ft table?

Glen;)

Hmm, does it have anything to do with buying their wood at Home Depot? Did you know their 2x4s are an inch and a half by three and a half?

I couldn't believe my eyes. I had to rip one to fit a trim spot. I cut it twice and it was still too short. :scratchhead:
