Table Mechanic in Iowa?

Does anyone know of a "good" table mechanic in central Iowa? I am wanting a table "diamonized" and was wondering if there is anyone remotely close to me that could do it. I have done basic re-felts, but I don't have the experience to tackle something like this.

do you want the rails/cushions recalibrated or just the pocket angles fixed?

Hey Rob,

I Pm'd you with some info, but you must not have gotten it. It's a 60's 9ft AMF Grand Prix that I refinished from ground up. I am wanting it refelted with blue 860hr(which I have) and want the it done right. If the rails/cushions need recalibrated and the pocket angles fixed, then that is what i want to do. Can the pocket shelves be made deeper? I plays pretty good now, but if I can make it play better, I would like to.

You've for sure put a lot of work into your table, but yes, if you're wanting the table to play at its best, you're going to have to have the sub-rails recalibrated to the exact spec's in order to insure the table will play at its best. At this time, I don't know of anyone in the Iowa area that has the training or expertise to perform the work, I know everyone in the country that has the skills to do this kind of work, but none are near you....sorry:embarrassed2:

Thanks Glen. You gave me quite a bit of insight when I started it. I was actually wanting the sub rails recalibrated, too bad no one around here can.:frown:

No disrespect to you Ron, I know you work on tables, but like I told the OP, this kind of work is specialized and can't be done without certain tooling and the ability to use it, as well as knowing what and how to perform the re-calibration on the rails.

No, I dont want to ship my rails.

So, hypathetically speaking, if I wanted to learn the art, what would I have to do? We have already figured out that no one within 600 miles of me knows how, so me having a yoda to show me the force is out of the question.....
 
Trust me, you are much better off shipping the rails.

The "craft-table" requirements might bust your budget...
