I played a league match on a Bowling alley small bar box. I didn't scratch on the lag because the cue ball dove to the side rail as soon as it passed the side pocket. Forget about predicting which shot you will try next.
I don't like to use Red chalk (stains the shaft too much). So I don't care for red cloth.
As for size, I prefer 9'ers like many. 7'ers look like children's toy tables, but I will for social games.
As a side note on size. Blown away that pros play Bar Box tournies...

I played league 8 ball at an opponents bar where they roll the table into the dance area on league night. The table was so unlevel, that after the break, all the balls would slowly roll back to the foot side of the table. The only thing that slowed the balls down was the thick nap from the cheap old felt.

I refuse to play on any of those defective tables that have holes in them.

Red, tan, or black felt. Tables with poor lighting and tables where the rails are literally coming off. (Local place I won't name meets the last two pieces of criteria and has tan felt.

7' tables.....even Diamond Tables......pool was meant to be play on 9 and 10 ft tables.
I know there are space considerations for home tables and for pool halls, i.e., league play.
If the opportunity to play on a 7 ft table comes up, I just don't. I've declined to join APA teams.
The last time I even played on a 7 ft table was 7-8 years ago & I didn't like it then or even now.

Playing on a table that is poorly maintained, with incorrectly shimmed pockets, too hard or too soft cushions, poor lighting, extremely worn cloth, inconsistent or loose rails, out-of-level,odd pocket angles or shelf depth, will keep me off. Add tables and walls too close and excessive people traffic etc. These are what will keep me off.[/QUOTE]
All of these things describe the tables we play on on Tuesdays. They just flat out suck and are just frustrating. I'm not opposed to a tough table that plays fair but those Gandy's we play on are just horrible.

Man i'm glad I'm not the only one that hates red cloth. I can't make a ball on that stuff. I really struggle on anything but tournament blue to be honest.

I refuse on principal. Plenty of $1.50 around me. Even $1.
Funny, the two places in my area charging $2 don't have leagues. Nor are their tables "current." Complete ripoff.
There are as many places that have "Free pool days" near me (2), as there are places that charge $2...
They'd make more money off their table(s) if they lowered the price... And that's not including drink & snack sales... I know I'm not the only person making a conscious decision not to go there because of it.
That sounds like a good story..care to share?
