Tables you refuse to play on

I have played on some doozies in Mexico and the Philippines though, and I've played on bar tables where there were terrible roll offs and/or obstructions to deal with.

Was in Mexico years ago... Played 8 ball on an table (outdoors) at a small motel. Was playing with the bus driver. Had more rolls than a bakery. Balls went left or right. Straight did not exist.

I played a league match on a Bowling alley small bar box. I didn't scratch on the lag because the cue ball dove to the side rail as soon as it passed the side pocket. Forget about predicting which shot you will try next.

I don't like to use Red chalk (stains the shaft too much). So I don't care for red cloth.
As for size, I prefer 9'ers like many. 7'ers look like children's toy tables, but I will for social games.

As a side note on size. Blown away that pros play Bar Box tournies...

I played league 8 ball at an opponents bar where they roll the table into the dance area on league night. The table was so unlevel, that after the break, all the balls would slowly roll back to the foot side of the table. The only thing that slowed the balls down was the thick nap from the cheap old felt. 😖

I stopped at, “they roll the table into the dance area...”

wow

I don't like the 9 footer at the Sport Bowl. Needs work badly.

I have played a tournament match in a grocery store. Had to get out of the way a couple times to allow a shopper to view the shelves.

Diamond tables,i hate them
when incardone and the guys opened diamods in dallas
i quit for a year rather than play on thoe funny rolling, short banking, sharp angled
goofy tables

I refuse to play on any of those defective tables that have holes in them.:D

Willie Mosconi....watching a 3-cushion game....(paraphrasing)....
“Those balls look like they have no place to go.”

Red, tan, or black felt. Tables with poor lighting and tables where the rails are literally coming off. (Local place I won't name meets the last two pieces of criteria and has tan felt.

Don't Condemn Me For This But I Admit To Being a Pool Snob, of sorts......

7' tables.....even Diamond Tables......pool was meant to be play on 9 and 10 ft tables.

I know there are space considerations for home tables and for pool halls, i.e., league play.

If the opportunity to play on a 7 ft table comes up, I just don't. I've declined to join APA teams.

The last time I even played on a 7 ft table was 7-8 years ago & I didn't like it then or even now.

No 7 footers, no red cloth, and def no plywood top tables..:grin-square:

Playing on a table that is poorly maintained, with incorrectly shimmed pockets, too hard or too soft cushions, poor lighting, extremely worn cloth, inconsistent or loose rails, out-of-level,odd pocket angles or shelf depth, will keep me off. Add tables and walls too close and excessive people traffic etc. These are what will keep me off.[/QUOTE]

All of these things describe the tables we play on on Tuesdays. They just flat out suck and are just frustrating. I'm not opposed to a tough table that plays fair but those Gandy's we play on are just horrible.

Man i'm glad I'm not the only one that hates red cloth. I can't make a ball on that stuff. I really struggle on anything but tournament blue to be honest.

Part of playing pool well is having the ability to adjust to the conditions.

Would I rather play on a nice 9' table? Sure, but I'd much rather be playing than sitting out because the table doesn't meet my "standards".

Are there any tables that yall refuse to play on? We play on 8' Gandys on Tuesdays and they absolutely whoop my butt. I'm about ready to give up playing there altogether. Just wondering if any of you guys have the same feeling about particular equipment.

What does it matter? Your opponent is playing on same table and conditions.

Any table that is $2 a game.

I refuse on principal. Plenty of $1.50 around me. Even $1.

Funny, the two places in my area charging $2 don't have leagues. Nor are their tables "current." Complete ripoff.

There are as many places that have "Free pool days" near me (2), as there are places that charge $2...

They'd make more money off their table(s) if they lowered the price... And that's not including drink & snack sales... I know I'm not the only person making a conscious decision not to go there because of it.
