TAD cue 2 shafts $500 ??? HELP>>>

just a work of advice. usually if its too good to be true it is. so it could turn out to be real and it can turn out to be stolen. if you can buy it in person with a knowledgeable person involved i would stay away. anyone with a tad knows its real value.

I would agree. I don't think it's best for me, since

*1.5 hour drive isn't appealing
*I am saving up for a custom
*It's not that beautiful of a cue
*Could be fake, or condition may differ from pictures.

If the guy lived down the block or 10 minute drive or so, I'd take a shot, it's 11:00pm and driving 1.5 hours for something such as a TAD which I have do clue about, not even a "TAD" bit. LOL.

Good luck to the Joe and Doug if they follow through with it, I'll give out the information to everyone at the end of the week to whoever is interested.

Tad Cue?

Its a tuff one. The shape of the cue is like Tad. I bought mine in 88 and it has no logo on it but the butt sleave is longer. Mine is also a steel or stainless joint 18pin. But thats quite a bit later. His cues were usually slimmer in the grip area than most others cues. He did get alot of his stuff from Martin though so the look could be right. But if you took it to Tad and he said its his that should do it. Back then I don't think he had many set styles, mine is a 4 point with double black and double red. Does anyone know if he showed up at the trade show this year? I didn't go this year, but the last one I went to he was there in a wheelchair, but still sharp to talk to.

I own a big pin Tad PJ... that pin looks like Tad's typical 3/8x12 big pin (from looking at the size of the pin and counting the threads as best possible).

It's hard to make anything else out though with the grainy picture. Would be interested to see a picture of underneath the bumper. I believe all Tads (even early ones) should have a serial stamped in the wood. See if the seller will get a picture of it and then you can email Fred Kohara to verify the number and cue.

Good luck.

Ray

EDIT: Just saw the posted picture of wood beneath the buttcap. Still kind of hard to tell though... what is the number?

I spoke to Fred Kohara on Thursday, he said that 301 was May 20th, 1980. FYI. As a result, I would say that it is either late 1979 or early 1980's. His estimate on age is a bit off.

Did Fred say if the serial number of this one matched the description in their records? If not asked, that's what I would do. If the description matches the cue pictured, I would say it's a Tad and a steal for $500, if it's not already stolen.

Well, I would certainly have picked it up, but when I arose today and went to check the info that Duce sent me, the listing had been deleted. Someone else must have jumped on it.

The seller saw this thread on AZB, assuming he wasn't pleased. He seems not to like dealing with people, so he said he put it on ebay.

I am pretty sure that he is an AZB member, or knows of this site or knowledge of this thread. If he knows of AZB why didn't he just sell it on here? Just curious.

It's on Ebay now:

If he was an AZB member, he could have PM'd me, and I would have bought it straight out.

He started the Ebay listing at $600 and already has bids, so he will do better there than he would have on Craig'slist. Unfortunate part is that his ad will be pulled before the sale can be completed on Ebay, because he used the word "ivory".

It looks pretty similar to this old Tad that was posted a while back-

Good eye Andy!!

I am 99% sure they are the same style: (Different wrap)

Both cues are/were in California. 1-2 hours from each other.

They are not the same cue. The Studio City cue was refinished by Ernie Gutierrez and was pristine when sold a year ago.

Thanks

No Respect

"I already have an offer but he's coming from japan on business and wants me to hold it. I not sure what I am going to do so please let know because I haven't given him a decision yet but he is waiting"

Is noone thinking of the poor japanese businessman who is being left out in the cold on this cue?

He will now have to bid on it!!!

I though it a sweet lookin cue, not flashy but great wood!

Not sure, people have their reasons. Maybe the owner will chime in on this thread if he really does know about it. We won't know until he does though...

Ditto. I believe there are several people that would have liked that.

True, though better than Craigslist if the final auction price minus the Ebay commission exceeds the previous craigslist offer. Removal by Ebay is quite possible, but some people have said that if the ivory amounts to only 5% of the cue then it will remain there as a listed auction. Depends on the E-bay staffer that reviews the auction and whether they are willing to let it slide or not. I have seen some auctions where it squeaked by.

Yes, they are not the same cue. The Studio City cue no longer resides in Studio City. And yes, it was pristine, original owner, both shafts were equal length, and only light bluing on both shafts. That cue now has a letter of authentication and happily resides in a collection. I doubt it will see the light of day anytime soon other than on a home table through a few racks a year.

I had that stick in my hand several times and was in Tad's shop in Stanton when the cue was purchased but I never looked to see if it had a number. Does it?

Thanks

I do not know whether it did or not, could ask the current owner who happens to be an AZB member. The condition of that cue was considerably better than the other one. Being a catalog listed cue, there are more of these floating around.
