Taom V10 is the best chalk I've used. If you've got something better tell me what and why.

similar to what brand of oil to put in your car on automotive forums.

each has an opinion. and can argue till the cows come home, that they are right for whatever reasons they conjure up.

and few if any will ever beat a player that plays just a tad better than them by using a certain chalk over another.

Speak for yourself, my Fargo rate jumped up 100 points and the only difference was the chalk!😉

I dont think anyone thinks one chalk makes you play better
Taom and pag is cleaner
So less skids
Dont have to clean the table as often
For sure the chalk doesnt help you make a ball

so my thoughts and observations on chalk.

people with expensive chalk use much less and put it on carefully as ive observed. so it lasts longer. and should.
virtually all chalk ends up on the table. so a cleaner table from the expensive chalk is from less use of it.
same with it on your hands as they also chalk differently than the old style of holding the chalk in your hand rather than in two or three fingers and swiping.

what i dont know if if stays on longer so people dont chalk as often. but for it to stay on longer would mean it isnt quite as effective.
but all chalk seems to work to prevent miscues.

i am sure i am off on some things as ive never used the specialty chalks.

i dont worry about dirty table as my i robot takes care of it without me lifting a finger.

I do not think the pag and v10 are identical
The pag to me is alittle coarser
I agree if they were identical
Why bother with a square chalk holder
But the marketing says they are not identical ( i think)
And personally i dont think they are identical either but oh so close
So
Just like having a glove
Or an extension or any accessory
Having a square chalk holder to use the original is ok with me👍😊
I agree which is why I intentionally referred to Pagulayan chalk as being equivalent to V10.

IMO, the shape helps me apply the chalk evenly and control how the chalk wears down from
a simple visual inspection. I can tell which corners of the cube need more use for even wear.

As the photos in my post confirmed, I have both chalks so my comments reflect my experience.
I’m sure this applies to others but I’m supposing everyone hasn’t actually used both of these chalks.

Since I have, and for an extended period as my posts on Az about Pagulayan chalk confirm being the
first forum member to start a thread about TAOM’s newest chalk marketed under a pro player’s name.

I think V10 and are so close in appearance and composition that to discuss differences is a picayune
debate not worth the time hashing out. Pagulayan just is a nicer chalk to use…..I’ll just leave it at that.

yep, ron popeil made a fortune selling silly products on tv to suckers. a great hustler for sure.

he finally lost all credibility when he came out with a hair product to make you no longer having bald spots . it was just a spray paint.
the commercial looked like it was a miracle thing.
That was GLH good looking hair. Was spray color, funny as hell.

A guy I play backgammon with in Beverly Hills knew Ron, I always wanted to meet him. About 3-4 years ago I missed him at lunch by a hour, he died a few months later. I never met Ron.

While some of his products were bullshit, he was a pioneer in TV marketing and I always wanted to meet him. He was brilliant biz man. The guys I know in BH who are his surviving friends (all over 86 now) have told me lots about Ron. Wow was he smart. He reinvented himself many times over the years.

I’ve said it before and will repeat it again……Pagulayan Chalk’s Shape makes it a much better version of TAOM.
It’s easier to apply so it wears down better than oval. So it should last longer, plus it doesn’t roll & hide if dropped.

Get a box of Pagulayan Chalk….it’s the cube shape version of TAOM….pool balls are designed to be round, not chalk.
If you like the Pagulayan chalk, save yourself a few pennies and get Ding Jun hui's signature chalk. It's cheaper. The same thing. If you like the shape, get HeddaRo Max 8000. It's traditional big square, Traditional blue, clean and does what all chalks do.

I'd say I have a preference to TP7500 grey, given the good coverage, and fact there's a lot of grey cloth where I am situated. If you clean the white ball every rack, who cares what chalk to be honest. I have been given heaps of chalk over the last two years. More than I can use in my lifetime.

I am not saying the Pagulayan chalk is bad, got given a piece, I tried it and like it. But DJH is cheaper and the same. I think the HeddaRo is the same price bracket, but you get more for your money.

Thanks for the info. I never heard of those brand chalks; comes as a big surprise but welcome news nonetheless.

No problem. I posted about Taom and DJH before. To my eye, they are exactly the same thing in a different package.

There's always something new popping up here. Like most things in pool, it's more about the marketing than the product itself that seems to define what 'good' is.

I get given a lot of chalks to try here. I am currently using the HR Max 8000, after I was given it by a competitor to test. I really like it so far.

I knew a guy that used the spray hair. One of those ridiculous things but who am I to judge. I just tried to not let it distract me. His main balding was towards the back of his head so he couldn't look in a mirror and see how silly it looked. Where he was applying it made it hard to apply too. I can't imagine it looking anything but silly.

Another product that was heavily marketed was Grecian Formula for men, a degraying tool that did it so gradually nobody would notice. Maybe not if somebody saw you every day but it sure jumped out at people who saw you only once every few weeks or once a month.

Got to admit, marketing is a wonderful thing. Now it is women and influencers. Cheap makeup under their name lets them make a fortune. Gives me an idea, reverse the chalk, produce it as makeup again in the appropriate colors. Find the right person to front the product and everyone involved could be bazillionaires!

he was in california. they tax and double tax all your income so what you have left is peanuts.
so he wanted to punish them as much as he could. been smarter to base all operations and residence at a no tax state.
as anyone with more than a smaller income should and can.
