Tap league payout?

Hey guys - I just played a session in a tap league. 10 teams, 14 weeks, 35$ per 5 player team per week = $4900 paid into the league.

My team took first for the session and 2nd in the session end tournament and we won $485 total to split.

Best I can tell the league paid back somewhere between 1200-1800 total for the session and the league operator says the rest of the money is held back for masters - but I also hear that only pays like 5k for the winning team.

Are these payouts pretty standard for tap or is there something fishy going on? Im new to leagues, so I have no clue.

What is the best league for payback to the players?

Can't speak to TAP specifically, but most of the nation-wide league systems aren't designed as a payback sort of league. Some do, to varying degrees. My APA LO pays back significantly more than many who will be chiming in here shortly. I expect you will find this to be the same with TAP.

The bottom line is if you expect a payback, don't play leagues. That's not what they're set up for. Any payback is bonus, not to be expected. Leagues are for fun.

Play tournaments instead.

And as Tim mentioned before me.... here.... we.... go..... :p

That sounds about standard to me. You gotta figure at least $5 per team each night goes to the national travel fund. Then the LO pays TAP I think $1 per player for the handicap formula. So that is $10 per team off the top right there. Only 10 teams in the league don't put away much for national travel fund or profit in the LO's pocket. TAP, APA, VNEA. All of those franchise leagues are about the same. You guys that complain about league payouts are ridiculous. Leagues are not a profitable form of pool, they are entertainment. If you are concerned about profits play tournaments or gamble. But then again most of the league rats that constantly complain about payouts wouldn't enter open events without that handicap, so bottom line if you can't have your cake & eat it too.

The best league for payback to the players is the one YOU run. Of course after you have to pay all the expenses of running the league and pay yourself for your trouble, I'm sure you'll pay the players back 100%.

[Note this post has sarcasm as a key feature.]

Leagues are a service to the players, an organized form of entertainment. The people running them deserve to get paid for doing their job.

I ran one for a while here in the Seattle area. Our league consisted of just employees of the company that I work for. We typically had 14 teams of 4 shooters that played a 13 week session... twice a year.

We collected $5 per person per night. We paid back $4.60 of that at the end of the session. All teams got paid as well as the Top Ten shooters and the Most Improved. We even had a single's tournament at the end of each session wherein everybody got paid. For example, we would typically collect $3650 per session and pay out $3350.

We returned exactly 92% of what we collected. It was a great league.

How ridiculous would your reply have been if I actually COMPLAINED, rather than asking a simple question? ;)

Its all good bro - I was just hanging out with some buds. My other buddy played in a league where the OP ran off with like 12k, and these payouts seem really similar to what he was talking about.

Ill take the crush next time your in PHX tho?
