Nothing to fancy. Spent most of the afternoon the other day and put this
together. I have about $150 in materials with most of the cost being the
1/4 front shield. Got it from Alro Plastics here in town and it is shatter proof.

That really looks good!!! Great set up for helping to keep things clean and quiet.

Hello,

I have a Jet 1hp 650 cfm dust collector hooked up to this enclosure and
Was wondering if anyone had any information on the best amount and size of air inlet holes I should have to get the best performance.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you put an 8-inch fan on the left side, it will blow the fine dust towards your dc port.
Good looking box.

It looks to me like his dc (dust collection) hose is on the left side - so wouldn't he place the fan on the "other left" side to blow dust and chips toward the hose?

Busbee - It looks like the plastic shield just leans against the front of the box - is that right? Or does it slide in slots to keep it from blowing off?

But I agree, a simple and nice looking box.

My bad. To the right then b/c his cutter is throwing chips to the left.
My cutter is in front of the wood, not behind it.

Hello Gary,

The bottom ledge where the shield sits is slotted so the bottom can not slide out and the box is angled inward, the shield has some weight to it so it rest in the opening pretty secure and does not move, when the dust collector is turned on the suction really holds the shield against the opening pretty tight plus the shield is thick enough that it does not bow inward in the middle.

I like to be able to remove the shield to gain access to the inside of the box rather than have the shield on a hinge. It is much easier to just set the shield off to the side when making adjustments inside the box.

Thanks for your reply Joey, the fan sounds like a good idea. I needed something to keep the dust away from the router, the first router started having issues after four months of use due to the dust I think.

Thanks for the clarification - dumb me didn't even think about the vacuum create by the fan - you haven't applied for a patent on that design yet have you? I like it.
