TAR 29 Podcast with Van Boening and Orcollo: Questions?

What is the single biggest thing that helped improve your game the most?

Where does a player's shotmaking/firepower come from? Why are some players able to come with the tough shots over and over, and others can't?

How do you keep the same rhythm during a match? How important is it to you?

Questions for the Players

What is the single most critical shot in pool (outside of the break)?

Do you use any coping techniques to deal with pressure?

Who were their pool heroes growing up?
If they could play anyone, living or dead, at any game, who would it be?
What is the biggest sacrifice they have made to be where they are?
Is being a pro what you thought it would be like?
Do they have a specific goal?
Where do you see the game in 20 years?

it might be asking too much, (it probably is) but if they could break a 10 ball rack, take ball in hand and run out and as they run have them talk about each shot, how they wanna get on next shot etc.......

might be asking way too much here, but it sure would be cool to see them do this. atleast I think so.

2. I'd like to hear from dennis the craziest gambling story he has, I'm sure he has a few :)

3. Please ask them how they hold their cue, mainly what fingers do they use and so fourth....that part of corey and john's podcast was great!

How important is good fundamentals/mechanics? How often do you work on them? Who do you think has the best fundamentals out there?

If you are playing bad, what do you do to snap out of it?

How do you deal with distractions and people sharking you?

Plus one on this

SVB 10-Break How To

Because it's considered the best 10-Ball break in the world. Shane needs to step to the table and;

1. From the standing position what he is looking at, what he is looking for in the rack to determine the point where he places the cue ball.

2. Then step by step whatever he is thinking, talk out loud about his pre shot routine for the break.

3. Then the feel/approach he is when trying to get through the cue ball.

then dennis can step to the table and do the same.

Damn, a lot of good questions here. Those who laugh at the AZ crowd don't realize how many bright pool people are on here. I'm always learning new things myself.
I have one prediction that might amaze you. Dennis will break as good or better than Shane IN ALL GAMES!

I've been saying this for over a year now. The top players are catching up to Shane in the break. No longer does his break alone make him a favorite. To me this is why Shane has come back to the pack...so to speak. Johnnyt

I would like to hear Shane's thoughts on his current state of play. The TAR match ups are great. That being said I would like to know if there is a difference in prep, state of mind, whatever, for the TAR style events vs. Tournaments. He hasn't had the best of luck, as of late, at the TAR table. He has been playing great in tournaments.

I would like to know if a person needs to focus on one vs. the other, to have success at either.

And I'd still like to hear from Shane about his 1P game.

grip

I would really like for them to show how they grip the cue and while they are shooting explain exactly what they are doing. Mainly things like the position of their fingers, wrist, arm motion etc. Thank you

favourite shot

i would like to see both players show their shots at the table..

favourite stroke shot and favourite positional shot..thanks

When you get on a new table to you ever feel really uncomfortable? (how do you overcome it) Do you have any mental tricks or preparation techniques for getting yourself ready for a match? (or do you have a path to "The Zone")

1. What player surprised them the most with a high level of play? Basically, what opponent have they underestimated the most.....only to realize that the person was the real deal.

2. What players do they study the most (living or dead) in regards to picking up subtleties of the game? Whether it be alternative bridges, pattern play, the break shot, etc.

3. What are there thoughts on Bank Pool? Is it an underrated discipline?

4. What banking and kicking systems do they use, if any?

For Shane,
Ask him if he feals different when he plays Earl? Ive seen him play alot of times and he seems to not have that killer instinct against Earl that he does against anybody else, hes always laughing at Earls antics and seems to me scared almost to do something wrong, afraid Earl will go off on him. thx to TAR!
