TAR 30: Van Boening vs Appleton JAN 18-20, 2013

Get Lee Brett to ref this match! I would buy it just to see him rule in Shane's favor and then you have got pool and boxing action!

??

I might of missed it i seen this asked earlier but is this taking place on a 9ft or 10ft table?

My prediction is Darren wins 2 out of 3.

Shane will miss twice as many balls as Darren but Shane's break will keep it close. You guys that think the tightness of this table will hurt Darren more than Shane are wrong I think. I also think Darren's stroke is better suited for the tight table - nice short compact stroke. He only uses as much stroke as is needed. Shane, on the other hand, always has that long stroke, no matter what.

I guess we will see.

You say that like have a long powerful stroke is a bad thing. Assuming SVB has nothing else going on between his ears, Daren will not win.

To quote Shane, "He can't beat me." (Seems like he says that about everyone... seems true.)

best,

Justin

Match is on a nine foot Diamond with 4 1/8" pockets. New cloth goes on this weekend so the pockets will probably play a little easier than the last couple of matches where the cloth was worn in pretty good.

Lots of players play just fine with long powerful strokes. I just don't think they are all that necessary anymore, mainly because of the fast cloth. When I compare Darren and Shane the main difference I see is the way they stroke the ball.

Darren only uses as much stroke as he needs to get the job done. Shane tends to go for that really long stroke on all his shots. Everything else being equal, I'll take the guy with the more compact stroke. Unfortunately for Darren, everything else isn't equal because Shane's break is better.

I guess we will just have to wait and see how things turn out.
