TAR 34 Download

After a PM from CreeDo it got me to thinking about using some other equipment. So I went to my old XP machine with an older version of Mozilla Firefox and tried the download. It looks as though it will work just fine. I'll have to wait until later tonight so I won't affect my monthly bandwidth allotment.
Why it didn't work with Win 7 and the latest version of Firefox is anyone's guess. I really have no idea. I'm glad I kept the old machine though. It has saved me on several occasions.
But if by chance it doesn't work I'll post again tomorrow otherwise thanks to all who responded to my plea for help.

Hmmm i have Windows 7 as FireFox as my web browser and it works. Glad you got it working though.

No the video plays on the vimeo but only on the computer or ipad. But i have the WDTV live which has a app for vimeo. Which i can stream to the tv and it only goes to the 30 minute mark then stops but just does it on the media player. I watched it on the PC though so no problem.

I have an Apple TV with a built in Vimeo app and it streams well on that. Just passing on info for a similar player...

I just purchased it and saw what you saw. You have to do what TheConArtist says below. I just right click the "download now" link and saved it. If you don't it'll try to open in the browser.

There is the watch now button and below the download button. You right click and save target as, and choose where to save it too. Must right click

That's correct.

The WDTV live media player has all the apps the Apple TV does and the vimeo app plays any other video fine. Just this match it doesnt work maybe cause of the file size or something idk. But i do find it weird that even with the downloaded file all the dvd burning software i have doesnt even open it as it says its a unknown file format, but being a MP4 format is a very common format that i burn.

Unfortunately the MP4 format can contain a huge variety of video and audio formats. So, you can have 10 files that are MP4s, but each is actually a different format and some will play fine and others not. Vimeo is using a variety that Windows Media Player and Quicktime won't play.

That being said, as others have noted, the files will play using VLC. What you can also do is use VLC's "Convert" feature to export the files into a more useful format:

-Click File>Convert/Save.
-In the new window add the video file you want to convert.
-Click the Convert button at the bottom.
-Provide a destination file name (Click "Browse" to select the folder you want to create the new file in, and type the new file name to convert to).
-Finally click "Start".

After a some time the file will be converted. You will also notice converted files are much smaller than Vimeo's.

Sadly, VLC is a little buggy and may not convert perfectly, the new vids still may not play. If your converted files still don't play, then you can download FFMPEG for Windows or Mac and have it convert that VLC converted file to fix the problem file. FFMPEG does not work well on the original Vimeo files, which is why I don't recommend it right up front. It's also a command line tool, so if you're not used to using command line tools it's a pain.

After downloading ffmpeg in Windows, drop it into a folder with the video file, then open a command prompt, cd to the folder with the video file, and enter the command for ffmpeg:

ffmpeg -i filename.mp4 -qscale 0 new_filename.mp4

filename.mp4 is the name of the VLC converted video file. -qscale 0 (zero) is probably useless but it works, and new_filename.mp4 is the file name you want for the new converted video file.

Good luck.

I actually streamed the 1 pocket match from the Vimeo app on my Apple TV. So just relaying that it worked well on this specific file we are talking about, not a regular small file. I'm on Comcast cable, the cheapest standalone internet option they offer.

I can play this with any of my normal players. XBMC, CCCP (Media Player Classic and codecs), and VLC. It's just a large file, baseline profile x.264 3.1 video with 2 channel AAC audio. It's pretty standard, as far as codecs go.

VLC starts the fastest. The others need to load a bit more of the file.

I guess I've about given up trying to buy tar34.

Tried IE, firefox, and Chrome on two different combuters and can't pay with paypal.
I am talking to some one from paypal trying to figure it out.

Guess I'll just have to try to watch BB tonight.

BB not going to good, gues I'll keep trying to get tar34.

Sucks you're having this issue. Does it seem to log you into paypal at all, or you never even get that far?
Try deleting your paypal-related cookies and saved passwords. This just means when you visit
the site, you're gonna have to manually log in again by retyping your email address and password.
Maybe your PC has it saved incorrectly.

Most browsers let you delete just the cookies for one particular website.
I'd avoid deleting ALL cookies saved on your computer.
But if you do it's not the end of the world.

Another thought is your credit card info is in there wrong. Maybe your saved credit card
is one that expired or you cancelled it, or the bank issued you a fresh one
and the security code or expiration date changed. I'd triple check all saved credit card info.

CreeDo, I appreciate the suggestions.
I deleted all cookies, tried it with three different browsers and 2 different computers.

Went into paypal and made sure the credit card info was good, but when I go from the vimeo site to paypal it wants me to add a card. I am going to add another card to paypal and try that.

Usually it is a lot easier for me to spend money than this! If I always had this much trouble I probably could have retired by now.
Thanks

ok, let us know if adding a new card works. Paypal has been flaky in the past for me too. A friend's account had four cards, only one worked even though at least one other should be 100% valid and up to date. And he cannot for some reason remove the dead cards. Maybe it's some over zealous fraud protection. Good luck.

Sorry you are having trouble. If I could workaround the system and give you direct access I would. I can do it on a live PPV but the Vimeo thing is out of my hands. If you havent already you might try emailing Vimeo's customer service. They have been very responsive for me. It sounds like a Paypal thing though. I hope it works for you.

I took CreeDo's advice and added another card. When I went to pay for it, everything worked. The weird thing was that it paid off of the original card that I had, that didn't show up before, not the new one I added.

I guess adding the card was as good as kicking paypal's server, just not as satisfying. Gotta love consistency.

Thanks for the help all, now I can skip BB.

Has anyone actually downloaded the match yet & burned to a disc? It would be nice to start a collection of DVDS. I would like to do that just don't won't to waste my time if it might not work. Thanks.

I think you need 2 funding sources in PP, the second as a "backup". I'm actually surprised you never had issues before. Anyway, glad you got it sorted out.

I was going to download it, but the download wouldn't start because my computer is out of disk space. lol. I don't know how you'd burn it to a dvd, the file size is 16GB or so, and a DVD is just under 5GB.

Knock on wood, but I think Justin found a way around the bootleggers and the Youtube uploaders simply by the shear size of these videos.

No. It's too big to fit on a DVD. You'd need to split it. Downloaded and streamed on my internal network or played on a local computer, yes, most everyone has.
