TAR and DCC

Heard a rumor that there would be no TAR room or matches at the Derby this year because they still haven't fixed the internet connection... Say it ain't so Joe... Say it ain't so.....

Last i heard Justin said he is done with DCC, but who knows things can change pretty fast.

Aww, if that's true, I'm sad.. I never had any problems with the TAR stream in past years from the derby...

I thought he said it also had to do with not being able to plan anything because everything just happens at the Derby and you can't really say this is going down now or tomorrow or in 3 days. no one knows what will happen next.

The problem is Justin can't get the good PPV matches to happen. At least not with enough of a schedule to advertise them.

You have to remember that the PPV is the only real way he can pay his way. I'd imagine the Derby was pretty expensive for him.

Justin stated this in a post after last years DCC. He said it just wasn't worth his time and expenses. He also mentioned something about someone spilling a drink on his equipment and not having proper security to keep people out of the room when it wasn't supposed to be open IIRC.

I also understand that the casino has dropped the ball again. They were supposed to have had another internet line installed back in March (after promising it would be ready last year) so that the live streaming would work properly. I personally think the casinos do not want people in their rooms using the internet when they could be in the casino flushing their money into the Horseshoes coffers. They also may be afraid that good wifi could allow some cheats to use the internet to win some of their money back. I sincerely hope that Greg finds another location rather than continuing to use the casino. Even if it had to get a little smaller to do so. I love the DCC and have attended every year, but having it at the Horseshoe or any casino for that matter detracts a lot from the tournament. IMHO, Casinos are for suckers who are mad at their money!

I can relate to this Sherm. As for me, I'm glad the casino is much further down the hall, far beyond the pool tourney. We don't have to walk through it to get to the pool tournament. I've gone every year to DCC at the Horseshoe and only went down to the casino once or twice. I only play poker anyway.

That's a real bummer. Watching through TAR used to be the next best thing to being there.

I am so glad I got to go when it was at the Executive West. That place is going to go down in history as the magical time of the DCC. It was the right spot for that event on so many levels.

I don't know if I even want to go to DCC in a sterile casino environment. I did enough of that at the Vegas shows. While there is something incredibly impressive at seeing hundreds of tables lined up in a room nothing compares to the DCC rooms at the Executive West. All that old wood and cathedral ceilings just made for the perfect atmosphere. Me, being a child of the Color of Money, was always more impressed with the scene in the lounge at the end where the players are betting proposition shots and Eddie takes a seat at the end of the bar than in the scene where all the tables are lined up in the big room for the tournament.

TAR really became a fixture for me to be at the DCC vicariously. It was sad to see the tournament move to a casino and even sadder to see the end of TAR's involvement. I hope it's not permanent.

The biggest problem is the action. The only action the casino wants is on their tables and slots. thats why they had problems with the gaming commission last year.

The same thing happened in Vegas. There used to be a collection of tables that were open all night and the action players would hang out there. Then the casino came in and shut it down claiming that the open gambling was against the law. Which it probably was, but still.....

And they have 86ed people for gambling as well, barred them from the premises. How would you like that, go to the tournament and get kicked out of the building the first night for gambling on pool?

DCC at the Exectuvie West was the BEST - the cops - real ones - hanging out at the venue where people are betting THOUSANDS and the only issue the cops have is people smoking in the non-smoking room. Pimps, hookers, thugs, three-card monte hustlers, all congregated to gamble on pool and no one bothered anyone else...... all good eras come to an end.

REALLY NEED TO GET THIS TOURNEY BACK TO THE OLD LOCATION! I HAVE NO DESIRE TO GO AS WELL AS MANY OTHER PLAYERS AND CUE GUYS! WAY TO EXPENSIVE AND IN CONVENIENT TO OTHER HOTEL OF CHOICE AS WELL AS DIFFERENT RESTAURANTS. 2008 LAST YEAR I WENT AT OLD SITE! NO PLANS TO GO UNTIL A MAJOR CHANGE.:sorry:

Could they use Mi-Fi

That would possibly work if they could get a 4g signal in there consistently. But I doubt Verizon has a plan that would support the enormous amount of bandwidth that broadcasting would require. All the American carriers are trying to throttle users not enable them.

That's just not possible RADAR.

The previous location sold to new owners if I'm not mistaken.

They remodeled the facility which pretty much eliminated the ability to put table up stairs. Without that, the DCC at the Executive just can't happen.

I have to hijack the thread real quick to profess my man crush on you Royce. I have never really tried an OB shaft and tonight I got a new (to me) Schon with a custom fitted OB2 shaft.

This might be the best hitting shaft I ever hit with. I will elaborate in another thread at a later date but you really managed to put out a MONSTER shaft with this one.

And I agree the DCC at the Executive West is done forever. Just like Johnston City at the Showbar, it's over and never will be again. Those of us who were lucky enough to experience it when it came to like just as Greg Sullivan envisioned it will never forget it. In years to come we will be the ones telling our DCC-EW stories and comparing them to the "casino years". :-)

The EW is no more -- it's a Crowne Plaza now. After the remodeling of the building that took place a couple of years ago, you now could't get anywhere near the needed number of tables into the building anymore.

Well if we know TAR isnt going.
Will there be anyone one else that could bring a little action into our homes?
Also ,Will there be any streaming of the tournament itself?
