TAR Podcast #44 Tomorrow Night 9/19/13 Questions/Topics?

Since you have two sets of rails/pocket sizes available, how about letting the players decide for each match which set to use? I don't mean each day a different setup, but prior to the start of the whole thing.

Mark did a great job working with the BEF in Vegas, is there anything else going on with CSI and BEF? I'd like to see a program setup where a pro or several "sponsor" an area or junior league program and make some basic instructional videos for them on YouTube or send them autographed notes of encouragement. Like maybe Shane doing a 5 minute stance/stroke video and actually talking about the kids in the league like "this should help you guys in the Jr Texas Scratches League".

Justin, thanks for the Shane video, Alex enjoyed watching it, although he's still having a hell of a time making a ball in 10 ball. That "pop" is tough to get.

There was a good thread earlier this week regarding small field (16 or 32 man) tournaments and tours, and Justin had a lot of good ideas about it. I'd like to hear some more discussion about that. Why would it work? Why wouldn't it? Why hasn't anyone tried it? Also, what do you think about long race single elimination in events like that? Say race to 8 or 9, 2 out of 3 sets.

Mark or Jcin, when will the diamond 10ft be used to see who is the best for the cash on the big foot?

I have a few things.

1.)
I would also be curious if you can clue us into what if any long term plans for TAR there might be. Do you hope to grow it into a UFC/Pro boxing type format, where there are top contenders, and they get a shot at the top spot? Just keep string together matches here and there? Do you hope to turn it into a viable payday for a larger group of people, both TAR employees/helpers, and Pros? I'm not sure if you can share this with us, but I love watching the streams, and I think the product is excellent. I'm just curious if the goal is to grow it even larger, or change it into something structured, etc.

2.)
After watching both Straight pool, and the World Cup of Pool this week. I think more formats can be entertaining. I would like to see some on TAR. Any possibility of Scotch doubles, 14.1 tucked into an all around, in any future matches?

3.)
Are you still planning to do a Big Nasty commemorative type event? If so what? I'd like to hear how things are different now without the big man around. Just haven't heard much about the big guy lately, and would love to hear some of your insight, now that it's been around a year since his passing. (Personal and professional stories would be very welcome.)

4.)
Any progess on a young guns match? Skyler, Landon, etc matching up a bit?

5.)
Need more Smooth Criminal. After watching Bartrum pound Geno, it reminds me how much I like watching that guy play. Get someone in the box with that kid!

That's all. Thanks for all you do TAR and crew.

All the best,

Justin Hanson

I saw the match that Shawn Putnam was commentating while shooting I thought it was very good for the entertainment of the game what are your opinions and also the players thanks

I got word BB starting back up this month, can either player confirm?
I know BB is a tired topic but I'm really wondering if pool players will come back after their the payment fiasco.
I heard at least one say he would consider it, and it kinda made me think of Lifetime movies.

I've heard many people claim 8b/9b/10b are just a breaking contest now.
Do these guys agree? How would they solve that? No MBR? No inspecting or touching the rack?
Some strange rule change like Paul Schofield's 'no conflict' rules where you always shoot after the break?

Given the negative reaction, will Mike still concede games where the other guy needs to make several
shots to win (corey needed 9 when Mike unscrewed in the recent straight pool)?
What about the claim that it's bad form for a player to order dinner while the other guy is running out?
Should players be required to stay in their chair and do basically nothing?
Could ordering food be considered taking a break (which is usually limited in tournaments)?

Personally, I'd like to see if they can go a whole podcast without uttering the words "Bonus Ball". Maybe a prop bet, to see who says them first?

IF it comes back, talk about it then. IF something more substantial than a Facebook post happens, talk about it then. IF it impacts another event (again), talk about it then.

Just one podcast without it, mmmm-kay?

Bruce

Not really a question, more like a request-

Can you talk more about the back story behind the match up i.e. some of the back and forth woofing between Mike and Jayson.

I think it would be more interesting if the match commentary spent more time on the backstory too. Maybe on each day's opening segment?

Eric >then throw the bats and can lids in

I'd really like to know about Jayson's grip...actually both MD and JS's grips. Jayson seems to get A LOT of action on the CB when he wants to and he hits them pretty firm.

First off I hope the match is a success.

I would like to know Jaysons perspective on playing pool n america. What is the thing that stands out to him the most about the american pool scene.

Coming from outside and jumping into the tournament scene as well as traveling inside the states he should have or could have some interesting observations.

Jayson and Mike will not be here tonight. The match is next Friday so they will be here for next weeks podcasts. I will do my best to ask them whats been posted.

What topics are you paying attention to in pool at the moment and what do you think would make for an interesting discussion? Please post them up and we will do our best to get to them.

I hope you can join us tomorrow night at 9 PM Eastern on www.theactionreport.com

Justin, looking forward to the Podcast !..Maybe this subject has been approached before, but do you have any plans for any "All arounds" in the future !..Like maybe 10 ball, One Pocket, Banks, or 8 ball ? (No straight pool puhleeeeze, we've all had our naps. :o)..Mark has had a lot of experience in successfuly promoting those other games !

Or possibly a good One Pocket match-up !..There should be plenty of willing participants !..I know one pocket is not your favorite game, and I realize you need to be cost effective, in what you offer. But you may be surprised at the interest which could be generated by 3 races (to 5, 6, or 7 games) in 3 days, with combatants like Frost,Pagulayan,Busty,SVB, Efren,Gabe,J.J.,Shannon D., etc....They could, and should, draw a decent PPV audience !

Mark mentioned before about wanting to revive the U.S. Open 14.1. Can he elaborate a little bit on that? What would it take to do it? What are the obstacles? etc. I know I for one would like to see it happen.

Mr. StraightPool, I hope my callous dig at 14.1 (in my previous post) did not prompt you to make your request !..I know a lot of people may think one pocket is a boring game too !..But the reality is, except for the northeast, 14.1 has been dead for over 50 years..And, there was not that much action when the game was thriving ! ..About the only action, or interest any more, is in 9/10 ball, or one pocket.

Even 9 ball champions, like SVB, Strickland, Alex P., Hall, and many others, are gravitating toward one pocket, because it generates more hi $$$ action than almost any other game ! When played right, it is a fascinating test of pool skills !.. There is nothing wrong with liking one particular discipline over another, but the bottom line is, NO streamer is going to want to put out a PPV product, with such a limited following !

PS..I would like to hear Mark's opinion on this subject, as he likes to promote almost ANY pool discipline, however he is not primarily a 'streamer' !

Questions for Shaw

What happened at the World Cup of Pool? On your first shot you missed a 2 rail kick - Did you attempt to compensate for the slide of the new cloth under the lights? Last shot - How did the cue ball end up behind the 7 ball?

BTW - I appreciate your speed of play and sniper-like ball pocketing!
