Been a while for a post.saw Ronnie Wiseman last week in Vegas(salt of the earth) stopped at tarantula billiards in Denver on my way back to NY. These guys are absolutely killing the billiards industry. 1 am and there must be 150 people in here min.

Shout out to the most successful pool joint in the country

Glad to hear the place is successful. I think I stuck my head in their door once, just to check it out.
I don't get downtown much but I always liked the Tarantulas sign out front.

Not the first choice for players but it seems that they have been around a long time.

someone give us a review and pics and also what are they doing right that other places aren't.

Never been to Tarantula, so I can't give a true review of any kind. Have only visited Felt, Piazza's & Mile High Billiards, but not at 1AM.

Having said, walk into the Peppermill in Cheyenne, Wy on a Friday or Saturday night at 1am & you will find over 100 people. 8 Diamond bar boxes and 1 Diamond 9ft table all pro cut pockets. You can count on one hand how many pool players are in the place at that time.

tarantulas is in a good location and has a ton of tables but is more of a spot for casuals. The balls are usually mismatched and the equipment isn’t super well maintained. on any given night it can get pretty rowdy.

they do free pool with purchase during the week which is a nice touch. I won’t go there to play by myself, but if some friends want to bang em around it’s a much better spot than your typical single valley table bar.

they do stay very busy.

also, i got kicked out of there once for rolling a spliff inside.

It has always amazed me that it never gets mentioned for the Denver pool scene. I get it, but this thread is the first that I know of.

Twist one up for me!

likewise are Zanzibar and the Wynkoop brewery. Lots of tables, lots of casuals drinking and knocking em around. I used to go the wynkoop during the day for free pool. Another rarely mentioned spot is Gerards, but i’ve never been.

I have played at all of those. Won a yearly tournament at Wynkoop 6 years in a row.

I have the trophy in my pool room at home. It’s the only trophy I have!

Zanzibar Has some weekly tournaments that seem to be popular.

Would like to know your name 6 years in a row ? Wynkoop brewery are you familiar with Mellisa little

Tarantula and zan z bar are not your typical pool halls more just bars with 9 footers
Best pool halls in Denver in my opinion piazza felt mile high billiards but 10+bars with 6 or more diamonds

Well either they are killing the industry
or they’re successful, can’t be both

I have played pool with Cuebuddy and he can play pretty good and winning the same tournament 6 years in row is not surprising.
Everybody pretty much knows Melissa, for awhile I was her sparring partner getting her ready for tournaments.

The tourney was one of the strangest I have played in. It was a scholarship fund raiser for the American Public Works Association.

It was teams of two players with around forty entrees so twenty teams.
Matches were kept to five minutes, eight ball. The team that had pocketed the most balls when the bell rang would move on. A scratch would cost you three balls and a scratch on the eight ball would cost you seven balls. Double elimination.

Every team seemed to have one good player and one that could barely hold a cue.

After years they gave that event up and handed me the trophy since my name was inscribed on it so many times.
