Team USA Still in the Lead

Perhaps you see it that way but I don't. It's the reason for my vehement posts regarding alternating break that touched on the analogy I gave.

I believe there's more pressure with a traditional winner breaks format as it changes the game dynamic. It's easy to keep your equilibrium when you know you're going to get a shot at the table every other rack. It's tougher when you're locked in the chair watching someone lay a package on you. Can you control your apprehension so when you get to the table you can respond?

It's also a huge disadvantage to rhythm/gear players to break & run a rack & then having to take a seat.

Pool has always been about controlling the table & applying pressure by doing so. It's difficult to apply that pressure when you have to relinquish the table every other game, a different mindset.

I'm just curious here but how many players do you know that can hold a table for long periods of time?

Hypothetical situation:

The year is 1985. We trade Hall, Varner, Sigel, Rempe, etc. to Europe for just Ralph Eckert.

Fast-forward to 2016.

Is pro-pool in America all the better or all the worse for it?

Would it have made no difference?

The early events with players like MAchine Lou Butera (forgive the spelling) Mike Massey, etc were genius.

Great entertainment. No one actually cared who won lol

Oh come on. We all cried for weeks about the rolls, the rules, the break etc and labeled everyone who didn't traitors, then sent them to America to practice! That's what i remember anyhow.

With Brexit in full swing, maybe next Cup should be one country against another country: USA versus, say, England or Netherlands or Germany?

Yeah sure Jen, always cheap excuses. Why don't you accept it for what it is, and always will be.

Short races, Blah, blah blah blah, blah. So what. Team USA needs an extra 5 games in order to be able to catch up.

Screaming Fans. Blah blah blah blah blah. Yes. Totally their fault, all the time. Pretty sure if no one was allowed in, just the Teams, you figure then that would make a difference.

Why are you always such a sore loser.

Well, it certainly won't be USA vs. Land of Sasquatch! They don't have enough champion-caliber players to form a team, so they come on an American forum and bash the American team. :grin-square:

I actually think Canada vs America is a much closer matchup than Europe vs America.

That's what sports fans do, Jam.

They have their team, and they will hate on any team that they go up against.

Except Land of Sasquatch doesn't have a team. :D

Look, I don't see any shame or anything wrong with losing. I wouldn't still be a Redskins fan if I did. :o

I am, however, disappointed with the same American pool aficionados demeaning the American player and its coach as if they have no talent. It's always the same Americans doing it too.

Of course, I would like to see Team USA do better, but I'm not going to tear 'em down as if they're rubbish. I give 'em credit for playing in that kind of an environment, which is not easy. I'm actually pretty impressed with the performance of Rodney and Justin this year.

If you notice, though, every time Team Europe ends a match, the entire Team Europe and Marcus is over there high-fiving them and congratulating them. On Team USA, there's something missing when a match ends. I'll let you decide what it might be. I actually think this is the biggest disconnect and causing the problem. It's not the caliber of play.

Sore loser much Jenny Poo. It's seriously showing. Who said anything about Canada.

Ohhhh, it's an American Forum now, so Canadians don't belong.

I thought it was for everyone, USA, Canada, Europeans and so on.

Excuse me if I'm not waving the FKIng flag for you. I have more relatives in the UK than I do in Canada. I have 2 cousins in the USA, one is a Lawyer so automatically a Dick.
The other one is just a Dick.

This place is always so quiet before you show up and start shite with people constantly.

And then you go whining to the Mod. Bait, Run and Report. Your usual MO.

Of course they don't. It's Team USA, right. Maybe they would do well to allow other players on their team. Their supposed Formula doesn't seem to be working all that well at the moment, well, for many many Moons now.

I just discovered that I'm almost 100 percent Northern European according to 23andMe with my DNA. I'm still American, though, a Heinz 57.

You're right about one thing, though. This place was quiet before the Cup. Enjoy it when the Cup ends. It will soon be back to your norms. :)

Let's do it on a per capita basis. We are one tenth of the size of the US. You field 5 players. So, making it proportionate, we would have to field one world class player, to your 10.

We pick Alex. Which player are you sending to play against him?

If you get Alex, do we get Mika, Shaw, Appleton, and Thorsten?

Do any of the above have actual US citizenship? If so, have at it. Alex has a Canadian passport. And citizenship.

Bustamante lives in Europe. Can he play for the Euros?

Out of curiosity, how difficult is it to become a Canadian citizen opposed to, say, becoming a US citizen?

Whats missing from the USA when the match ends is the WINNING part.

C'mon , are ya gonna keep this up n remain delutional ?

Your post clearly shows ur ignorance n lack of knowledge on how the game has evolved .

Open ur eyes , american players r considered bench-warmer in current standard of pool today with the only exception being Svb and his acheivement is still shy in comparison with all the taiwanese or european players who are younger n yet won multiple world championships.

When the americans dominate europeans in the early years , they were respected n nobody called them ' one trick ponies ' , off a sudden sudden tide has reverse and you start finding excuses for em, big buckets , crowd , equipment.

Leme ask you , were you complaining when earl was sharking everyone he played n got away with it ? He clearly displayed a lack of class n etiquette , why didnt u mention it ?

Were all the americams who won the early years of mosconi against a bunch of snooker players considered 1 trick ponies since tide has been changed ?
