Um hey Mac, it's called a friendly jab. It was a joke, an attempt at humor.
I am sorry you took it to heart.

Gotta know how to roll with the punches... LOL....

FLICKit said:It's all about the details. In TAP if you pick a pocket, that ball can go in all kinds of crazy ways. As long as it goes in that pocket, then they count it. It doesn't matter if it goes 7 extra rails or richochets off of 8 extra balls, and collides with the cue ball, then falls in the pocket. The point is, that's a slop shot. Thus, as has been stated it's a lie to say it's "no slop".
Although I've never seen a ball go "7 rails & richochet off 8 extra balls" in any league, I suppose it is feasible. But I can see, since you shoot APA, that you might have seen it happen since there are 5 more pockets to "slop" it an object ball.
I started out in the APA years ago (because it was the only game in town) & have seen this scenario more than once. A player can make a good hit but has no clear shot at all. He also has no way to play an effective safe. So since it was in the APA & there were 6 pockets to "slop" it into, he just slams it & as LUCK would have it, he "slops" it in. This ploy cost the team I was on a trip to nationals in 1998. This feat would be very hard to accomplish in TAP. Since there were no clear shots to CALL, a player in TAP would have to guess the correct pocket not hope for it dropping in Any Pocket Anywhere. Also, I really can't see how this can help a lower ranked player become a better player.
Being there are 2 sides to every coin, while shooting on that particular team, our team captain most always shot hard, which as you know gives you a better chance to "slop" one in, & he was one LUCKY dude. (Of course, when this happens in the APA, you hear groans from the opposing team & a chorus of "Good shot" from the shooters teammates.) Thus he was nicknamed by his team, & eventually known around the league as "Captain Crap". I' say his nickname about sums up the APA.

Simpler example, shot for the corner, hits both tits, goes to opposite long rail, then back towards the pocket. Seen that happen many times.

You understand the point. Stop splitting hairs.
8 ball then play by the rules... 9-ball then adjust and play by those rules... straight pool, one pocket, ....Sarge said:You call the pocket, and you don't care how sloppy it gets there. If it goes 7 rails and goes in the pocket, it's not slop. If it richochets off many other balls, no matter, it's not slop. OK, I see how you play it. So, it's not a matter of whether it's a good shot or bad shot, but simply a matter of whether you're lucky enough to get it into that pocket, no matter how sloppy the route.
Yeah, that's much more skillful. Really eliminates the luck factor.
Like has been said, you play by the rules and adjust. That's the way to pros do it. So be it.

In TAP if it's open table and you make a ball and scratch, then you call that a legitimate shot, despite the obvious foul.
Say what you want, this was already discussed... Old news....
Give up the TAP crap....
Flickit, you are kind of wordy. Someone must've really hurt your feelings once. Bye the way, good call, Sarge!Sarge said:You should use the word CRAP with the proper acronyn...APA!
FLICKit said:Maybe I should.
Maybe I should do it the TAP way.
All I'd have to do is copy the APA, an already existing successful method. Then simply change a couple of rules, and change the handicapping formula (even if it's for the worse, as has been demonstrated). Then take a number of people from the APA, who have already been trained in how to make the system work, and make them a part of the organization. Wouldn't have to change any other format at all.
Let's see how many players/team - stick with 5 to 8.
OK, how about determining the handicap range - stick with 2 to 7.
OK, what about the race format for number of games - just copy the APA grid
How about weeks/season? - keep it the same
How about seasons/year - the same
How about playoff format - the same
Do we do a city level tournament - yeah, just like the other.
How about a national tournament? - yeah that too.
OK, but we'll move the location to somewhere else - hey that's cool... way to be original
Annual membership fees - keep it the same
Cost/week to play - same
Payouts at the end of the season - let's make that less.
OK, but even though imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Be sure to bash that system, that we copied, every chance we can get.
Oh, and then lie about it, and say it has nothing to do with politics.
Hmmm.... Doesn't sound very hard at all...

Sam at TAP said:I think Robert hurt his feelings when he threw him out of TAP and now he has to play in a inferior league. I would be bitter too. To have to play in a league like that when down deep you know there is a better one in town. No wonder he is on this board so much. He doesn't have to practice anymore. He can just slop balls in.![]()
FLICKit said:... My game personally never deteriorated more while I was in TAP. Not only were people so badly rated, that matches didn't have relevance. This has been the opinions expressed by a majority of players in TAP. But, overall basic stroking abilities deteriorated. Pool became frustating and makes you want to just quit the game altogether. I've seen that happen with others...
Razor_Blade said:I finally decided to read this thread to see what was keepin it alive. This has to be one of the funnyest threads I have ever seen. Here we have the VP of Sales for the tap league involved in a flame war, on an internet message board. Is the VP of Sales actually a paid position, or did they give you a title in lieu of pay? Most importantly, where did you gain these fine marketing skills? Any company that expects to be taken serious would fire you on the spot.
It was obvious from the beginning of this thread that Flick It had a grudge against tap. You brainiacs let him sucker you into an all out flame war. I bet this will have people beating down the door to join tap.
I have been visiting pool related message boards for several years now, and have never saw APA represenatives trolling for members or bashing other leagues. It could be that they are to busy running and growing their own business?
