thank yall both very much. the texas open has got to be my favorite events of the year. great players and matches and lots of action. Lewis and Paul do a fantastic job running the tournament. GQ's does an amazing job getting the place ready to handle the crowd, i tip my hat off to them for all the work they do and bringing in bleachers every year. i get to watch and learn from what could possibly be the greatest cue repair man ever.....(Ron Geyer ) and i get to see the new cues that Jerry comes up with. I wont give details but i was in Jerry's shop a month or two ago and he was working on some cues that were unbelivable, i may have to buy one for myself.........i would also like to add that since i got into the cue and cue repair buisness that Jerry and Ron are some of the nicest guys i have met and have helped me tremendously......i couldnt say enough good things about either of them. i am glad to do what i can to support the tx open and hope to still be supporting it when it is the 70th annual tx open. my wife and i are just glad that it doesnt interfere with the opening weekend of dove season this year!!! ........ yes thats right my wife loves to go dove hunting........could i be any luckier?

james hanshew

James, you give your wife a loaded gun? We need to talk. LOL!

You are so right that Ron and Jerry are fantastic guys. None better.

I have been so lucky to deal with both over the past 6 years and might add that with Ron, Jerry, Jack Kompan of Mystick Cue, and Robbie and Jeff of Lubbock round off a great team of guys here in Texas and I don't know how life would have gone without them. You are a perfect fit with this collection.

Lewis, Since you Ray and Gary seem to be a good history data base, What is the longest running U.S. Tourney, and is the Texas Open in fact the longest running 9-Ball Tourney. I'll hang up and listen for your answer.
Thanks, Royce:grin:

Nope, the only other event to run longr is the US Open. It is in it's 36th year and the Texas Open is in it's 35th year. Lot's of tradition here.

As of a few minutes ago, there are 66 signed up for the open and 17 ladies thus far. I'm sure it will fill up.

Remember, the players meeting starts Friday the 29th and 10:00PM along with the auction. Play willbegin Saturday morning with times TBA

I hate to correct you Lewis but the US Open 2008 will be the 33rd year!!

I don't know of any Tournament that has run as long as The Texas Open! Began in 1974.

exert from the above article:

"In the first 22 years of this event, there had never been a professional pool player win until CJ Wiley did it in 1996. The event has always boasted a large and strong field from all over the world."

Again, your generosity towards this event is just overwhelming.

Thanks so much.

What about Buddy Hall?

I gues I stand corrected. I was going on what I was told and never really researched it. I believed that the Texas Open was the 2nd longest running tournament in history.

All right, where are the raffles? That looks just awesome! Very nice work.

James' cues are great players too! I think you can buy raffle tickets now at G-cues!

James builds some great cues and this one is no exception. He has great attention to detail! I wouldn't hesitate to buy a few of these raffle tickets myself if I was going to the open this year. Too bad I'm not able to go.

I currently have a Hanshew cue and I will say that it is a great cue that still looks as good as the day I bought it from James. I've had it for a couple of years now. It hits stiffer and better than my Zylr did. I switched from my Zylr to play with the Hanshew! Truly nice work and great players. Whoever wins this cue will not be disappointed!
