As some of you may recall, I recently posted about my three cracked ivory ferrules for my Gina. Some of you gave me some good advice. And then I got a PM from Murray Tucker: Send me the shafts. You don't owe me a penny if you end up unhappy. If you think I've ruined a shaft I'll buy you a new one.
Wow! What an offer.
Then the issue of the unusual threads Ernie uses came up here and I asked Murray if that was a concern. His response was: Weird threads don't bother me a bit. If I take a look and think I can't handle it, I'll send them back.
Soooo, off they went Monday morning, next day air. Tuesday, Murray called to say they had arrived safe and sound. And Friday afternoon, they were back in my hands.
The workmanship is impeccable. Murray said the ferrules came off in one piece -- he didn't have to touch the shafts (it's really remarkable how he got the ferrule and shaft so seamless looking without sanding the shaft -- even closing your eyes and rubbing the shaft, you cannot feel where wood ends and ferrule begins). And the ivory on the ferrules is pure white, just the way I like them. Tiger tips all around, mit pads
One of the best parts is that Murray said he did not have to touch the shafts and if one day I wanted to send them off to Ernie, he'd be able to just thread on his standard ferrules.
I wasn't going to trust this job to just anybody with a lathe. But knew of Murray's integrity and machining background from long ago. And so, when he volunteered to help me out, I was very grateful. Thanks, Murray. I hope I haven't embarrassed you too much by bragging on you a bit here. But in almost 40 years of playing pool, it's tough to impress me.
But you did.
