Every poolroom has an "action man." You know, the guy that, if he's there, something will be initiated. Where are you from and who's your guy? Stories? Thought this would be good info and funny.

I will be 69 in July so not quite the action man I once was. I still play ok one pocket and play some $50/$100 a game with good players at Hard Times, Sacramento.

I guess I was a pretty good action man in my day because they all came by to play me. And if you were a stranger, I would play. Not a big score, but would bet enough to be in action most of the time in the 70's/80's.

One match that stands out is when a young guy comes in the Golden Cue in Rosemead and walks right up to the table where I was playing pinochle ands asks to play. I had just booked a couple of losers to strangers and told him he was probably too good for me. He said "You are right, you got the eight". We played & I ended up blowing around a thousand, still not knowing who he was. A couple days later there was an article on the front page of the LA Times sports section. It had a picture of the guy I played. It was St. Louis Louie, in town to give an exhibition at the Elks Lodge in LA.

If this thread takes off, later on I'll tell the story of how I hustled Don Willis in Los Angeles in 1965 or 66. John Henderson

In my area, there isn't much action.

I would have to be the action man here, but it's hard to get anyone on the table. I probably know as many gaff games and hustles as all but the most seasoned road men. I can usually get something going.

In fact, I'm hosting an all-around tournament at my house next weekend that will consist of:

9 Ball
Texas Hold'Em
Closest to the hole (short golf pitch)
Basketball
Quarter Pitching

...now that's probably the most complete all-around I've heard of.....

everytime i walk in the pool hall now, it seems i get action no problem..guess im the local sucker now

I didnt get 10 feet in the door and 2 guys asked me to gamble the last time I was in the pool room.

Whats the saying....1 out of 3 guys are suckers in the pool room and if the guy asking you on the right and left are not suckers, well...........:(

Come on, cheer up Outtawhak, it'll get better.

I know the feeling though. I have everybody in the state of Texas Trapped, I just can't take it off.

I'm from Knoxville, Tn., And the man you are talking about is Johnny C.(been out of town for a few months--up around Raleigh,N.C., but will be back the 1st of June). When he is in the room(Knoxville Billiard Club) the window is always open. He's all in every time he walks in the door, and has absolutely no fear of anyone(much to the detriment of his bankroll). He is a good friend of mine, and you have to love him. :D

Iba,
If I could get there I would snap that off. I played college basketball and golf. I play hold'em for 6 hours or more a day and I have pitched coins with Scotty T. and some of the best at that. 9 ball would probably be my weakest discipline here.

all the guys i bet with here on azb have got me on the pool table when we meet in person. im on tilt and ready to enter into orbit
