Good Heavens! I'm doing the unthinkable--starting an aiming thread--sort of.

Notice the words, "are useful" are used instead of the word, "work".

Now, here's the important part:

Please don't make comments, no matter how tempting it is.

JUST VOTE!!!

vote yes.on aiming show some

From a statistical point of view none of the choices would properly show my true opinion on the matter and thus I cannot vote.

Useful how? Useful at what level of play? Ghostball is an aiming system that I have used to teach beginner students, do I think it is "useful" at a high level of play? No, not really, but it is useful as a teaching aid.

But then if a person says yes the results of this poll will be used by certain people on this forum as proof of something far beyond the scope of what that answer truly meant.

If you say "maybe" it sounds more like "I don't know, gee this thinking thing is hard!".

And to say "No" is to ignore the usefulness of some aiming systems as a teaching aid to brand new players who do not even understand the concept of aiming a ball.

Chalk me up for D, they are useful at the very early stages of development and training.

How about they're useful at the early stages of any type of shot? If I'm learning how to shoot, obviously that's early development. If I'm learning how to kick safe, that's much higher-level but I can still have an aiming system that helps me start out lining up those shots.

I'm always interested in those methods that have at least some level of geometric validity attached to them.

I'm not sure about calling it an aiming system, but if it works and it's reproduceable...

I said yes...of course systems work and are very useful!

BTW... did you all see Darren Appleton measuring that kick/or using a kicking system ...which he made...during the US Open finals? but hey.....who'd he ever beat... right!

What I've found is players who bad mouth systems have never learned how useful they are, or maybe just don't like learning. I hope every player I ever play hates systems and never learns them.

Sorry Bob but I'll keep it short only because of the two mean spirited comments.

I didn't vote......

Aiming system

I use a system for long thin cuts. I also rely on a aiming system whem Im not in stroke or when Im shoting bad. Its another tool to have in the bag just like your jump cue or glove or bridge.

Violating my own rules and bump posting once since it's on the fourth page, and may have been missed.
