I guess it means they wanted a tattoo...just not a permanent one. They were having fun in "the big city" with a group up from Waco Texas that play at Clicks Billiards.

Yes, more timeouts without BIHs would slow down the game. But, in conjunction with BIHs, the games for the SL2s would actually speed up drastically. Each timeout should only last one minute or less anyway.

I played in the ultimate sandbagging TAP league also. In 1999 my team won the Ralley in the Valley where all 52 states sent teams to compete. Teams had APA SL7s playing as SL3s. It was ridiculous.

In the TAP league, SL2s are shunned even more than in the APA league because you guys have the 25 point team maximum. Who in the hell needs SL2s in TAP?

BTW, your league will never go anywhere because you have to mark every ball on the scoresheet.

I would be fine with 5 BIH s if the race were even. say to 5 never gonna fly if a 2sl would still only need 2 wins. . what they should stop is the luck shot being allowed. if you are above a SL4 you shouldn't be allowed to keep shooting. that alone would make a ton of people happy. IMO>

I've seen SL2s take a BIH line up a shot and miss it pure and simple. So, I don't think this strategy will work.

What I think shold happen is that a team cannot matchup player that differ by more than 2SL levels. So if team A puts up an SL2 team B cannot put up more than an SL4; if team A puts up and SL5 team B canot put up an SL2 (SL3 minimum SL7 max).

Since both captians known the SL ratings of the other teams members at the beginning o the competition, if the team captians end up in the situation where an SL7 has to be paired with an SL2--the SL7 is given the loss (2-1). This will put pressure on the team captians durring the earlier matches to avoid disasters later in the match.

Nice idea but I think this is too rigid (I have actually seen teams with ALL SL4s - then watcha gwanna do?) Let's say that team A has the stronger SL7. Team B should be able to take an 0-3 hit by dumping its SL2 on Team A's stronger SL7. Then team B can use its SL7 to match up against SL4s and 3s in order to win 3-0, granted a slight gamble but worth it in my opinion. Team B would then take one Team A SL4 or 3 out of the picture.

Having said that, dumping an SL2 on an SL7 with 5 BIHs would at least be somewhat tense, with the proper coaching. See what I am getting at?

Yes they should - its called startegy - or dumping. Stupid captains want to play there strongest players first. These idiots are easy pickins. I have seen this happen too many times. They usually always get dumped on and end up with egg all over their faces especially since a lot of these teams were favored to begin with.

I am embarrassed to say this, but I lost to an SL2 in the local poolhall playoffs, having scratched on the 8 ball after slamming the balls around.

I visited an APA event in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area tonight at Pockets Billiards.

It was interesting.....very interesting indeed..... when girls have no where else to "sign" they sometimes pick the strangest places. maybe I should visit the APA events more often....promoting professional pool isn't such a tough job after all. :groucho:

This would negate any good safety... that would be a disaste,r if a higher skill level were off on a particular night. lets see you break and are forced to take what you make, the you allow luck shots, then you have race like 7-2 and then you give BIH 5 times' I dont know about anyone else. but I dont always show up with my A game, esp. since I am poss. over rated to begin with.

To each their own. I play APA for the fun, camaraderie and friendly competition. The monetary awards are a joke when you consider ROI based upon hours invested. IMHO, if someone is that solely focused on using APA as a vehicle to winning a free trip to Vegas, get some game and win the individual qualifiers or go to some pool halls and win some money gambling.

SL 2s and 3s just got more valuable....

IMO it is not too hard to get a two or three to play better as long as they are willing to improve and the team wants them to.

Skill set aside 2s and 3s have a 30% chance of getting on the hill against anyone by winning just one game and that is 2 points out of a possible 3.

BTW, I believe your proposed rule change for SL 2's would have a negative impact on APA. It would encourage sandbagging like never before. I, and I bet numerous others, would quit APA immediately. If I had to play a 2 or a 3 even 1/2 the time, I'd quit APA.

I haven't played in a while, but TAP used to and may still allow unlimited mini-coaches to 2s (e.g., "Shoot the 7", "Play safe by hitting the 12 softly to the rail"). That's a huge time-saver as opposed to watching them stare at the table and try to decide what to do. I would love to see the APA adopt that.

I think auto-BIHs are a bad idea, though. Then, 2s aren't playing the same game as 3s and ups.

Due to the new scoring system, SL2s are losing popularity since they are most likely to lose 3 points against higher skilled players. Teams are going to start ditching SL2s in favor of having more SL3s and SL4s, and accordingly I think the APA will suffer.

Here is what I suggest the APA to do:

Give SL2s balls-in hand. For example, playing an SL7, and SL2 would get 5 BIHs, 4 BIHs playing SL6s, 3 BIHs playing SL5s, 2 BIHs playing SL4s, and 1 BIN playing SL3s.

Increase the number of timeouts and SL2 would get.....more when playing SL7s and decreasing down as the competition goes down.

Can you imagine how this would change the game?! SL2 may even become a weapon.

I play my SL2 and SL3 much more often now with the new scoring system. I try and match them up with weak SL4's or SL3's. If they win 1 game they are on the hill and earn one point. Max points the other team can get is now 2-1. If they happen to win, they win either 3-0 points or 2-0 points. I find playing my 2 and 3 an advantage with this new scoring system so far. But, it's only been 5 weeks so we are still learning how to macth up against other teams.

I think that many of the matches will end much quicker with a few 3 point matches, it will make the twin tower's teams (2 great 7"s) much stronger. When you can play 2 killer 7's and 3 above average 3's it might even be easier than it is now, since the 2 7's can maybe pull you in 6 points by themselves. The old way was that you needed 1 three to win and then dominate with the twin towers but now if 1 or 2 3's get a free point for hill hill you could win points wise with only 2 wins. Will it be trouble or save us from the 4 hour matches? I only play 9 ball cause thats what I like but I'm wandering if it is possible to add points for big 9 ball wins in the future.--Leonard

when it comes to tournaments... it used to be the first team to get 3 wins... with the new point system - what will be the points needed for a team to win in a tourney?


i agree with both of these.

my league has not switched yet so i haven't seen the new scoring in real life yet. both of the above posts make sense to me... matching up a 2 or 3 so one win gets them to the hill (and thus 1 point for the team).

on the other hand... i'm also thinking about playing high players against lower players (a sl6 vs sl2 or 3) hoping they will get 3 points for the team. the gamble with team points would be a 3-0 for a nice win or only 2-1 if they give up a game to the lower skilled player.

Good point. But, IMO, if a 2 (especially sandbaggers) started to win too much they would be moving up to the SL3 level. The APA would have to tweak the system. Also, don't forget, if the innings get too low the SL2 will go up again. And in my first statement the rules I proposed were only a starter system, or a for example.
