While Mike Sigel was commenting on the Boyes-Robles IPT match he said that the Baltimore Bullet movie was based on him. I've seen the movie but I never knew it was Mike they were portraying. Is this true? Has anyone heard this before? Philw

I've never heard of it but who knows.

Other movies based solely on Mike's zany life experiences

The Big Lebowski
Unforgiven
Bridge On The River Kwai
Doctor Zhivago
and Lawrence of Arabia

The movie was put together by a guy I knew around the pool hall. John Brascia. John the Dancer. A top Hollywood actor and Dancer. He had that script in his pocket and wanted to make that movie for years. I think it was based on a combination of a lot of what John experienced in his life. Im sure Mike was a part of it. Maybe Jay or Freddy can help here as they were there during the same time

Do you think Mike is trying to gain some notoriety like Minnesota Fats did after "The Hustler" came out claiming one of the main characters Fats was about him? It just seems too strange hearing this after all these years. Philw

:D Very true......:D

Buddy Dennis now living in the Columbia, SC area told me that the movie was based in part on his life.

Here's what I know about this.

Ed Kelly, James Striegel, Buddy Dennis and Mike Sigel were probably all part of the author's story. But I believe it was mostly about Kelly and I think he received some money for allowing the name to be used. I liked all these guys and feel that they are worthy of being called "The Baltimore Bullet" if they wish. Striegel, of course, has to have been dead for some time, given the way he lived and how old he was, back when I knew him.

I am looking forward the GRADY MOVIE.

Who would you like to play you?

Very insightful point, Phil! You can be sure that Sigel would like nothing better than to be the modern day incarnation of Fats. Of course the Balt. Bullet was made almost 30 years ago. But if Mike could parlay some of this IPT attention into PR for himself, he'd do it. One problem: he was never a hustler. Just a great player with a mouth.

They're not? I am almost positive I've heard him say they were.

Just call him "Fats" Sigel. Did he play the Sultan of Brunei as well for 3 million and beat him out of his Rolls?

After reading Grady's book 'Bet High, Kiss Low', I'd say the lead role would need to be played by either Arnold Swollenpecker, Tom Ooze, Tommy Lee Johnson, Denzel Wankington or anyone that is more situated for the love scene sequences.

It was a good book though. Just a bit 'sticky' in some sections.
