I can't find anyone that knows how to play straight pool.... 14-1..... and there is evidently no one left alive that has any idea what those 100 beads are for or how to use them to keep score.

That's how I learned to play pool way back when.............is it gone????

It's OK, my 15 yr old knows how to play it and how to use the beads, you can rest a bit easier now. At least one player will know what straight pool is for about 60-70 years.

Since finding a 14.1 tournament, gambing game or league is next to impossible, no new players even see the game, especially if their pool world is going to the bar for APA every Tuesday or something. Pool is 8 ball and 9 ball, just like when kids think about getting a hamburger it's McDonalds or Wendy's. Nothing else exists for them.

I'm more worried about all those players that were A players when they were 16 and were running out all over the place winning $50 sets 10 years ago but now can't make a proper bridge or 3 shots in a row at 40 for some reason. I keep worrying that my game will just dissapear on me any year now, I mean I'm close to 45 now! I'm scared, man, scared.

Haha....

I remember when straight pool was the only game played in a pool hall. 9 ball was for gambling and 8 ball was only played in bars. We played straight pool for table time and for 9 ball..... it was a ring game with a quarter on the 9 and a dime on the 5. No one played a race to anything.

8 ball bar rules were idiotic and were different in every bar......

I just looked at the facebook link, I think there was someone looking for a cue ID with that logo not too long ago. Now I know what that is next time I see it.

Edit after looking some more... you make some nice cues! And I love that snake ferrule design! Not sure how it will do when you are looking at it while aming, but it does look very interesting and will get a lot of talk at the pool room I'm sure.

Our local USAPL league had a 14.1 league but it was lightly attended and don't think is still around. We also had a 1 pocket league, maybe still do but I have not heard anything about it. They were actually the first of their kind in the USAPL and I think BCAPL organization.
 
Sounds like your that guy in the book of Eli, only one that knows, maybe you could walk across the country and deliver the long lost secret to those that have been staring in wonderment at those beads , thinking to themselves, What on earth are they for, why would they put all those bead there, Gee are we lucky your out there ....

Technically aren't those beads designed for a balkline/3cushion game and not straight pool?

As far as I'm concerned, beads are as mandatory as having a rack and chalk.
I have an antique set with hand carved spindles hanging above my own table .

If it makes you feel any better, we have a strong 14.1 following in chitown.
Then again, this is the billiard capital of the universe :cool:

Amsterdam Billiards in New York City hosts a strong straight pool league two nights a week. Joining the 14.1 league, people around me noticed an improvement in my game. I've now moved onto Individual 9-ball, to prepare myself for tournament play.
