The best S/P's

Well, after recently acquiring a custom sneaky from one of the top cue makers in the country, i have decided to do a collection of S/P's from all of the best cue makers. For some reason I love sneakys and feel it would be a nice collection. Just wanted everyones opinion on who they think makes the best S/P's. I have a few in mind but want to see what everyone else likes. Thanks for any input, its greatly appreciated.

I know a few people in my area who only collect sneaky peats from Tim Scruggs and Bob Frey and believe they are the best sticks made. Even though they may be a little overzealous about it, this should at least indicate that they are high quality.

Thanks Jamie, those were two that are definately up there, I have a Richard Harris Bluegrass SP now, so there are three I plan on having in the collection. Anyone else have an opinion on the best SP's by custom cue makers?

Myself, and others who are discovering.....truly one of the 'gems' among s/p cues.....play so amazingly well, that I cannot believe that more do not give them a try.....Josey s/p's!! Naturally weighted, Radial pin, finger-spliced full splices made by Keith himself, not from blanks. Some of THE best shaftwood. Very, very solid feeling, stiff hitting cue....I absolutely adore mine!

Beautiful cue Lisa, I have heard several people say how much they like the Josey's, unfortunately i have not had the opportunity to hit with one yet. Thanks alot for your input and i will definately check into them.

This is my other full splice....don't call this one an s/p! Currently in build, due date unknown. You'll have to beg like a hungry stray to get your hands on one of these, but I am told by those lucky enough to own one, they play phenomenal!! I can hardly wait!!!!!! Bois de Rose into BEM...hopefully with Satinwood butterflies in the butt and brass 3/8x11 SW-style pin......Murray Tucker. :D

I took a huge gamble on the Josey, never having had the opportunity to shoot with one either....but it turned out to be one of the best playing cues I have owned to date! I cannot wait until I can get the Tucker in my hands, as I have been told that I will absolutely, positively go ga-ga over it's playability as well. :) One thing's for sure, for as long as I have had to wait for the opportunity to own one, It will be a cue I will NOT part with....and very, very few do.

I am a complete full splice fan now....and I love having no wrap to distract me. As to Keith's cues, I love these s/p's so much, that as soon as I am able, I will be ordering another...only in a different 'flavor'....lol...(I only wish I could get him to make me one in BdR. :( )

Bill MDaniel made the best in my opinion, his "Mac Attack" is both beautiful and plays lights out. His craftsmanship was second to none,an example being that most,if not all of the highly sought after Scruggs sneakys were made by McDaniel. The tradition will continue even though Bill has retired. The two guys responsible for the fantastic work produced over the last 10-15 years have bought Bill's shop and are back in business.Look for a stunning example of their work soon.

Jimmy Sickles at sicklescustomcues.com , pictures of one in my signature. Really sweet cue and a great guy to work with.

Are they keeping the name?? Changing the ID mark on the Butt??? How can we tell a "Bill McDaniel" from the duo who bought the shop??

Here is the skinny. The two guys, Tommy Clements and Jess June worked for and made all of Bill's cues for the past 15 or so years in Bill's shop. Bill only handled the administrative duties. Bill sold his name and all of his equipment to a couple in the Chicago area. After a breif go at keeping Bill's cues going, they folded up shop and sold all the design rights and machinery,as well as the wood and various ancilliary things to Tommy and Jess. These guys are solely responseable for the fabulous work from that shop in the past decade or so.They have a new name and logo that I am not at liberty to divulge, but expect the same superior quality as before. This is one launch that will not have any time catching up to todays standards and will hit the groung running strong.

Just a note: The few dozen or so cues produced for the "new" owners were all made in Bill's old shop here in Jackson,TN. They moved all the equipment except the bare necessities to Chicago and planned to produce them there. Never happened. There was a cataloge with the entire line produced, but not one cue bearing the McDaniel logo was ever made by anyone other than the Jackson shop, period.

If I was going to collect them I'd get these..

Scruggs, Frey, Huebler, Sugartree (have one), BHQ (new but has a pretty loyal following), Josey, Joey Bautista (have one almost ready), DZ (just like how they play), BlueGrass, Zyler, Madison Bob, and any of the bigger name makers that I could find.

Think the sugartree, scruggs, bluegrass, madison bob, and zyler may be the best players. I'll let you know about Joey's, though I have a feeling it'll be great.

Cubswin, those Joey Bautista SP's hit really great. I would definitely put it on par with the Zylr's I've had and my current South West. I think you are going to be really impressed when you get your cue. I am currently waiting on a pernambuco cue from him & I am really excited for it.

Thats a pretty good list and close to what i was thinking Cubswin. Anyone else have input on sneaky's that they think are needed for an impressive SP collection?

I'm looking forward to it, probably be another week and 1/2 before I get it. Been wanting one of his cue's for years and now that its close I can't wait *lol*.
Cue is purpleheart with a maple buttsleeve, looks alot like my sugartree sneaky.
