The best S/P's

Thats a pretty good list and close to what i was thinking Cubswin. Anyone else have input on sneaky's that they think are needed for an impressive SP collection?

If you can find one get a madison bob. I had one of his customs and liked it, but everyone of his sneaky's I've hit with has been great. Usually about 200 in a used market, but you don't see many outside of kentucky/southern indiana. I live in north central indiana, and only see them occasionally.

Oh and you'll need a duffern ebony high run with the holly butterfly...a must for a sp collection imho. Ideally a scruggs, though I've only seen two of them. Know where one of them is at, but can't get him to sell it to me.

This is my other full splice....don't call this one an s/p! Currently in build, due date unknown. You'll have to beg like a hungry stray to get your hands on one of these, but I am told by those lucky enough to own one, they play phenomenal!! I can hardly wait!!!!!! Bois de Rose into BEM...hopefully with Satinwood butterflies in the butt and brass 3/8x11 SW-style pin......Murray Tucker. :D

Lisa

I am unspeakably jealous.

Diveney

Without question Pat Diveney SP's are on par with any pete I have ever played with. I have owned most of what has been mentioned here, and I feel comfortable saying Pats cues are made to be played with.

Hanky

I luv those hustlers -

Sure agree w/Hankys' choice of Diveney. IMHO if you're collecting SP/Hustlers you must start with T. Scruggs, then snatch up Josey, Bender, Zylr, Bluegrass, Searing etc.. Would like to play with them all.

>> Mr. Tucker can I order one of yours? Coco into BEM with your tasteful rings- Pleeeez?

Well, after recently acquiring a custom sneaky from one of the top cue makers in the country, i have decided to do a collection of S/P's from all of the best cue makers. For some reason I love sneakys and feel it would be a nice collection. Just wanted everyones opinion on who they think makes the best S/P's. I have a few in mind but want to see what everyone else likes. Thanks for any input, its greatly appreciated.

I have several. My best hitting SP is Pat Diviney.
Other very good ones are Tim Scruggs, Leonard Bludworth,
and Keith Josey.

Lol...no, no Corvette...never even got close to owning one. I think it's a combination of things....I play with my cues (he will not knowingly build a cue to become a 'closet queen'), another may be that I love BdR, and it is a favorite of his as well...in his top 3 for cue woods. Beyond that, I really could not tell you why I was lucky enough to make the list...but am glad that I am. And, one has to have extreme patience....Murray does not get out to his shop as often as perhaps he would like, as his primary biz keeps him extremely busy...and after that, his family time comes first. Cues are down on the priority list.

As hard as these are to come by, it's guaranteed I will not be parting with this one once I receive it....and if it plays half as well as I have been told, they'll be burying it with me...lol.

I, too, am considering starting a small collection of sp's, and may undertake it. The biggest problem is finding ones that are made by the top cuemakers. A lot of the elite cuemakers won't build them. And sp's by such makers as Kersenbrock, Searing, and Schick are rare, hard to find, and very expensive.

BTW, who made your sneaky?

I have not tried a lot of sneaky. Of all that I have tried, I like the one made by Keith Josey the most.

I also had a Bob Frey which I like a lot. The hit is a bit stiffer than the Josey.

I sold another sneaky pete by Josey to a friend of mine. He ordered an extra shaft from Keith. Two weeks ago, he showed me the shaft he got, the wood grain is so tight and white and without blemish, you just have to see it to believe it. It is one of the most beautiful shaft I have ever seen. I have seen some nice shafts by Searing, and Harris, but this one tops them all, hands down.

Yep, mine is like that....I could not believe a shaft this nice on an s/p cue!! Complete shock! Having owned some more expensive customs, this shaft, in quality alone, beat their shafts, hands down!! And not one lick of roll on this baby...straight as straight can be. I do not know where Keith gets his shaftwood, but I bet he's guarding it closely! I know that I would...lol.

I'm not sure what wood your friend's Josey is constructed of, but I think part of the reason my Josey feels so stiff is because of the density of the ebony...but then again, I may not have a clue as to what I am talkin' about.

Just have to say - I have many of the name S/P cues on this thread, but if you can get Judd to build one for you (he rarely does these) you will be very pleased. Cue balance/playability is top tier.

However, I would start with Scruggs and Richard Harris and go from there.

Pat Diviney, Josey, Paul Dayton, Ned morris, mike stacey, and for a production cue peachure are nice. IMO That would be a nice collection.:)

ed prewitt has a nice sneaky, only made 10 I think, and am not sure but they cost around 1000? al romero from hard times in bellflower has a classic sneaky that people have been using for long time and i think he still makes them for a reasonable price. tim padgett has a nice sneaky also whom he learned to make from bert schrager in the 80s. though i am still fond of a preadator sneaky that we have and the new red veneered ones look nice too, but expensive

Charlie,
The sneaky i acquired is an original 15 year old Richard Harris Bluegrass SP that one of the top players in the country pawned to me at an incredible price (he needed the cash). It has an amazing hit and, believe it or not, breaks better than any other cue that i have ever owned. My love for SPs and the acquirement of this cue is what encouraged me to start this thread and I really appreciate all those who have added input. Its more than I could have ever expected. Once again, AZ members have showed their passion and knowledge of the world of billiards. Thank you everyone so much, keep the input coming.
