I'm looking for the best cuemaker who builds a fantastic sw style cue.

Due to Southwest's limited guide lines. I'm forced to look for another cue maker. SW no longer makes wrapless cues or cues with ivory. So here i am looking for suggestions.

I heard James White or Rick Howard. Any others?

who makes the best southwest style cue?

Take a look at mike stacy's cues he does a great job and a great playing cue. I had him build me one and I am very pleased great guy to deal with too.

Omens taper is different but great playing cues and reasonably priced in my opinion. The wait isnt crazy either. I ordered a pair of his cues and had them in like 2 months. If you want pics send me your email and I will send them to you. Good luck.

Try Kent Davis out of Southern Calif. He post on here as KDcues. He makes a great cue at a good price. And it will not take 10 years to build. He will build you a cue the way you designed it. I think I am going to have him build my next cue. Also you could try Ned Morris, he builds a great hitting cue.

Mike Bender started at the same place where Jerry Franklin started under the guidance of David Kersenbrock.

Mike Capone builds some really nice "southwest style" cues and so does Pete Ohman.

Jeff Olney builts a really nice SW style cue, they play really well. There have been a few floating around.

In my opinion if you want a SouthWest style cue then you should buy a SouthWest. There may be a 10 year wait on them but there are plenty floating around second hand. Matter of fact there are 2 or 3 of them for sale right here on AZ as I type this.

But, if you have to go with a copy then I'd recommend James White. I've got a JMW cue and it's one of the best cues I've ever had the pleasure of shooting with. I even like it more than my SouthWest.
MULLY
but it's not a SouthWest style cue by a long shot

Buy a used Southwest. They play great!

I sold my gorgeous Southwest and often regret it.

I play with a southwest and also own a rick howard six point that is similar as my "travel cue"

I'm not going to sit here and tell you they are the same thing, but i've played with a lot of cues of this "style" when looking for my secondary cue, but this is about as close as it gets. You might want to look into a plain jane southwest or "satin" instead that way you will have the real thing.

Ricks cues are seriously underrated and they do play very similar to the southwest. The hit of the rick howard cue seems to have slightly less dimension and a little more "bite" than my southwest, but its definitely the second best cue I own and IS THE BEST flat face non-southwest cues i've ever played with.

Cues Do Not Pocket Balls, No Matter What Brand Of Cue You Have. An Accurate And Consistent Aiming System Pockets Balls.
Do Not Look For Lines To Pocket Balls. Lines Are Always Invisible.
Look For An Instructor That Can Demonstrate And Make Any And All Shots Accurately. If He Cannot, He Is The One Who Needs Lessons. Look Elsewhere. Stay Away From Leagues. They Have Nothing To Give You. It Is The Blind Leading The Blind. To Refrain
From Ever Scratching The Cue Ball, Put A Dot In The Center Of The
Table Opposite The Two Side Pockets. Take Your Cue Ball And Place It Anywhere On The Table, And Run The Cue Ball Over That Dot At Any And All Angles, The Cue Ball Can Never Scratch.

I would strongly recommend an olney.Honestly i was searching for a sw but since i found this olney i have i am not looking for sw anymore. And mine is a plane jane bem with a purpleheart handle under the wrap.

You can contact snowmon34 and i am sure he would have one for sale.

My other vote would go to bcm cues made by bryan moradt.

I also saw a very nice sneaky made by leon sly with sw style ringwork very nice work done by him.I just saw it in pics:)

I go along with Hal... as the saying goes,"it's the Indian, not the arrow".

I do understand that folks can want what they want & that is their right. I have also seen lots of Southwest cues being sold, so I guess those cues weren't a Magic Wand for their owner.

Do they really have a 5 year waiting period? That IMO is insanity for the buyers. Any company can go bust in 90 days. If the likes of Cue Makers listed in this thread, cannot make you a great cue, they should all quit.

I agree with u on indian and arrow part. However it also depends on what kind of bow and arrow u own as to far that bow and arrow can shoot.

And u you are also right sw dont have 5 year wait period but it is 9 year plus. and trust me its not for the looks that they have a wait period.

All the cuemakers make great cues however it depends on ur playing style what might suit u.

I have to agree with the above statement in principal. I have bought and tested a lot of cues since my return to pool. I discovered that I like a big pin, wood to wood joint with a phenolic collar. I don't believe that anyone could tell the difference between a 3/8 X 11 and a 3/8 x 10, PROBABLY NOT EVEN A RADIAL PIN EITHER ! I differ from most SW fans in that I don't like a cue to be TOO stiff. I like a modified Pro Taper. Even my new Olney had to be ordered with a longer taper, and my plan is to take it down a few more thousands still.

I'll rock the boat by saying that even another SW won't play like the last one you tried. Ask anyone who had several of them. They do have some common characteristics. I don't know how anyone can say that one particular maker's cues play most like a SW. I don't think one SW plays like another  . But you can choose a cuemaker that makes similar cues to a SW, and who puts the care into the making of the cue to get it close to perfect. I think Jeff Olney does it as well as anyone, maybe better, but I'm open to trying another brand. There are so many great cuemakers now...Tom

I second Roberts opinion...but comparing one cuemakers finished product to anothers is very subjective. OMEN cues have an exceptional hit and unparralled quality as far as materials used. A no-brainer as far as I am concerned.
