The Biggest Power Break In The Game?

Evgeny Stalev has a pretty frightening break... for as little drama going into it, the result is extraordinary. It's very unassuming.

De Luna, however... the Bruce Lee "Enter the Dragon" pose after the break makes it a little hard to focus on the break. I'd act like a ninja too if I could break like that.

Larry Nevel

I have to vote for Larry Nevel. Forget about pool cues, the guy has broken cue balls.
Perhaps Larry learned that technique from,...ME!!! I should dig out my shattered ball from Winner's Choice a few years ago and post the picture. The explosive power of my Clay Etheridge Showcase Hustler has destroyed a few object balls on impact also!! I used to go hang at the Carom Room, and I know first hand how powerful young Mr. Nevel's break is! He would certainly be in the top tier of this list.

I have been told on numerous occasions that my 8-ball break is the hardest they have seen. It's very similar to Xioating Pan's break, but with A LOT more power & a follow through like De Luna. I've broken numerous break cues and house cues with my break, which is why I no longer use a cue that was designed as a breaker but I use a custom converted Valley 2 piece, which has held up to the punishment for over 3 years now.

I'll have to look into getting my break shot recorded on video, plus I'd like to see it myself.

No one has come forward with a faster break than Charlie Bryant...34.7 miles per hour. That's the standard by which all others are measured.

Power break

Well, first off, i would like to say... hats off to those that can crush the rack and keep control!!!

I am what most would call a very large man LOL. I am 6 foot 5, and hover around 260lbs. I have played around with the break for several years, and have tried just about every "method" there is out there as it comes to addressing the rack on the break. I spent a little bit of time with Hillbilly at a fast eddie's tour stop in Round Rock, TX a few years ago, and he walked me through some steps to assist in my break.

So after many hours of attempting to perfect the "hillbilly break", i came to what i find to be the peak of my ability to impart energy into the cueball. As it turns out this equated to 31.4mph, and i was able to achieve this speed 3 out of 10 times being speed checked. 9 out of the 10 were all over 30mph.
HOWEVER... I have found that i have MUCH better results if i focus on SOLID contact with the one ball, and reign the break in to at or around the 22mph mark. This is where i try to keep my break 95% of the time.

If i run into the issue of the rack that "collapses on itself" (where the balls scatter like scaulded dogs, but then recluster), i then dial my break back even further down into the 15-18mph range and switching from solid contact, to the cut break.

Just my $.02, but i would much rather consistantly make ONE ball, and have a chance at getting out, rather than making 3 or 4 balls and not having a freaking CLUE where the rest of the balls may end up.

I believe Jamie Baraks has been clocked at over 35 numerous times. I know if you ask Larry Nevel who the hardest breaker is he will say Jamie.

Maybe then instead of asking who has the biggest power break in the game, it would be beneficial as to describe the regions power breakers?

For example: Philippines: De Luna, Gomez, Bustamante
U.S.A.: Nevel, Dechaine, Van Boening, Archer

and so forth. Personally all of the players listed here probably tops the list of breaking. I liked Pagulayan's break in the 04-05 era.

Jeff De Luna. Bustie? It's amazing how these small Pinoys can generate that much power. It must be technique? It's sort of overrated.

I would still say the best breaker..is the Prince of Pool. He reads the rack like no one else.

I would actually say the exact opposite and suggest that Corey is actually the most over rated breaker in the game, I have watched him lose more matches due to his gimmicky break letting him down in key times. The guys who follow the KISS rule and simply hit hard square breaks like SVB, Busti, Wu, those are the guys you see continue to get the most consitent dependable results tournament in tournament out.

IMO Corey's fixation on gimmick breaking is the reason he is not atm the best playing in the USA. He certainly has all of the shooting talent in the world to have been there, but his break killed him for pretty much a decade straight.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Charlie Bryant. I could have sworn he hit a break at around 35mph. That is just mind boggling to me. Would like to hear his thoughts on the subject.

I second Hillbilly for power! His technique is second to none. As for reading racks I would say Corey!

He can crush 'em, for sure. Danny Medina had a little power, too. (Might still have, for all I know) As far as players that I personally have seen live, these two are at the top.

Agreed about Evgeny Stalev. Other breakers, with all that body motion, you kind of know what you're expecting; if you're nearby, you flinch or cringe like you expect to get a screw or cotter pin right in the eye as the "machine flies apart."

But Evgeny's break motion is so simple -- just swinging the back arm like a clock spring -- that when the cue ball hits the rack, the sheer sound of it hurts your ears and makes your eyes go wide.

Power Break

I was clocked at the VNEA at 34.7 the first year I ever went to vegas. We was breaking on a valley bar table with the valley cue ball and breaking 3 ball.

If interested in learning my technique rent my SMACK-EM HARD video on my site.

Top 6 I've ever seen:
Me
Larry Nevel
Jamie Baraks
Jeff DeLuna
Busty
Danny Medina

You have a huge power break, but you have a huge weight advantage. You have more ass to throw into the cue. No disrespect intended. I know technique is where the riddle rests??? Okay BIG POWER BREAK, but you still have to control the white.

Jeff De Luna is a little guy, so is Busty... Just saying..... it's more impressive for a "little" guy to lay down the gauntlet. It sends a message.

Timing

That's what I teach you in this video is how to find your timing, so you learn how to have power... Most people don't have a clue and the ones that do mainly just have the gift of TIMING. I'm Not trying to ruffle any feathers with this comment.

I teach you all the elements to help you create the timing needed for power and accuracy. Almost anyone can break hard if they just take the time to learn how!!!
Landon Shuffet went from 18 to 19 MPH to 24 to 25 MPH with better control (in 3 months) after a 30 min. lesson with me at U. S. Open.
