The "Boy Wonder" of Billiards from Roxas City. Efren Reyes thinks this kid will be a great player when he gets older.

Eight year old Elijah Alvarez won the championship of the Pahampang sa Plaza - Mayor Angel Alan Celino 9-balls Billiard Tournament by defeating his opponent, 11-7. Thirty two top billiard players from Roxas City and Capiz have joined the said tournament.

Fast forward to 3:26 to see full video of Elijah. It is in Filipino/Vizaya, but still fun to watch.

I love it, pool outdoors in typical filipino fashion. Looks like one of the old "kangeroo" tables made by Puyat with slow, slow cloth! The kid plays pretty good but it almost looks like he wins on the eight or the nine. He's gonna have that Keith McCready style side-arm stroke. Worked pretty good for him!
 
The news story said the kid has an Aunt in Canada who bought him a toy table. He was fascinated by it and played pool constantly and eventually his family sacrificed and saved their money so they could get him a larger table.

School comes first, after he finished his homework he plays pool. He wants to keep playing pool when it is bedtime.

They have spent money for a person to coach him. His idol is Efren, that is who he wants to be like.

Check out this video of Jean Balukas on the game show "I've Got a Secret" when she was a little girl...

The first part is the panel trying to guess what she did over the summer, but afterwards she does play a little...

And she makes a couple of TOUGH shots...

What province? ...there must be 25 or more Roxas Cities in the PI. You talking Isabela, Capiz, Mindoro, Cebu, Palawan, Negros Occidental, any number of provinces on Luzon island alone.

There were a lot of visayan words thrown in along with Tagalog so Im guessing theyre ethnic Visayans trying to speak Tagalog for the interview. But yeah there are a lot of Roxas Cities in the PI LOL
