The Case for Bonus Ball

I know not having everything or anything together for the opening of the stream was a huge mistake on the part of the BB. I know many of you feel ripped off and beyond annoyed about it.

I was really looking forward to getting to see it as well. However, we are getting to see tomorrow for free. I believe the level of disappointment is only due to the excitement this new game brings.

Give Bonus Ball a chance, a real chance. This was the first time out of the box, and I can see it a nice production from inside the studio. Although I know sentiments lean heavy on the negative here, the FB fans Just seem to be excited to see it tomorrow/today. The pockets are tight. Very tight. But so are tables in many international games. Remember this is a whole new game. With a whole new set of rules of course.

The press on the rules isn’t too positive either. But I have read them. They aren’t that hard to understand. All new games have all new rules. This one is no different. Once they actually get into the season and we all start learning the rules the action is going to be exciting.

One other benefit, I won’t say, but, Ill put a healthy wager can you can guess what it is.

My guess Is they will tweak the rules for improvement as they go, as does any professional league.

I do understand if you’ve “had it” but really, that is bringing a bad attitude to a potentially good situation. Lets just relax, sit back, and watch these guys (and gal) make great shots, and miss….just like in the NBA. And that one time “start up” league is doing ok.

So IMO learn the rules, do your best not to hate, and maybe share the links on your FB page. Get the word out, and lets pray they get their stream situation in order.

Here’s to tomorrow’s action making up for today’s disappointment.

Peace.

Tap, tap, tap.

Very much how I feel. I will be there tomorrow night to watch this new game.

Give this a chance. I believe you will enjoy the show.

Best of luck,

-Blake

All I know is everyone on the New York team pockets balls unreal . Earl is a machine and Nevel was very impressive . Kiamco was no slouch either.
Best of luck to team BB

Kiamco would torture either of those 2 in any rotation game. They 'don't want none of that'!

Put down the kool-aid. The game has been around for quite a sufficient length of time to establish playable rules, and the players have been on the payroll for long enough to be familiar with gameplay.

I couldn't do better, but the outfit, while run by passionate people with (IMO) the best intentions...is absolutely amatureish.

I work in an industry where we offer live entertainment and when we put on a new show- which we do multiple times annually and have been doing for decades- it is rehearsed for Months and planned for much longer.

I can't propose a solution for the folks in charge, but they need PMPs who can engineer success, not folks who hope and spend...and the product is still pool.

You are aiming this at the PRO's are you not?

Don

I would rather play Pool than watch pool on a stream. IMHO Streaming is not like listing to an Old Muntz Eight Track Player, after hearing Music on a Hi Defention Sound CD.

I really want BB to succeed because I think it's an interesting game to watch pros play. I like the way it combines snooker, one-pocket and other games.

But I don't see the general public playing BB because it's too hard. The GP needs to be able to sink balls in all six pockets; limited to three pockets is just too difficult for anyone under B/B+ speed.

On the plus side, I thought the camera work was great; too bad the stream distracted everyone from that. It really was heads and shoulders above what we're used to, even at the best tournaments.

Yeah, the stream was a major fubar, but that's easily fixed. One of the few items where money can solve a problem.

I didn't mind that the players needed clarification of the rules. It gave the commentators (who were great BTW, thanks Rodney, JJ) time to explain a rule to the viewers. Plus, it's a complicated game; even if the players were "familiar" with the rules, I don't expect them to remember them like they do in games they've played all their life. Better to ask first, than argue afterwards.

The only change I'd make right away is eliminate the Bonus Ball Girls. They don't really have a job, and having them there is a throwback to the old boys club image.

I agree with everything except the last paragraph.

I disagree with the General Public comment as there are 3 levels of handicapping in bonus ball.

C players can make their points in any pocket
B players make theirs in 3 pockets except the black which can go in any.
A players have to make all their points including the black in their 3 pockets.

Obviously these aren't tournament rules just adjustments people can make in order to gamble or make their game more competitive based on who they are playing.

So although players are not currently gambling playing BB I do think once players fully understand the concept gambling may become a big part of it.

Why didn't I think of that? Sometimes I amaze myself with my own stupidity! I like it.

The game is easy to learn and fun to play. I played it in a tournament that was held in Canada for amateurs. I think that Nathan has changed the rules to make it more confusing but this is a pro league and playing a simple game like eight ball makes no sense, hats off to Larry Chiborak for having the vision to see what most Americans don't. He probably should have not tried to run the league but he certainly came up with a great game!

I can't wait to tune in tonight, again!

Having the vision to see what many don't could be a good thing, but in this case, it is certainly a risky thing. When Henry Ford came out with the model T, the utility of the product was clearly evident to the marketplace. Bonus Ball does not have the luxury of this obvious utility. I would rather see bonus ball succeed rather than fail, as I believe in a kinder, gentler world than the one we are all mired in. However, as a raging pool fan with disposable income to devote to all things cue sport related, I just can not bring myself to buy in to this game, much to my chagrin. As has been oft said many many times before, what in the world is wrong with the "traditional" games, all of which are hugely challenging and are what made me a fan an player in the first place?

I tuned in to BB when they released their sample games a while back. I could not watch even 10 minutes of it. And I am a huge pool fan. Another of my pool buddies could not even watch it half as long as I did. We are both annual attendees of the DCC, purchase TAR streams, etc. Bonus Ball will not get my money. And that is something that is too bad, because I am passionate about the game. To each their own of course. I wish BB luck and success, but I just can't find a way to be enthusiastic about the game itself. Ah well, can't like everything.

Cheers mates...

Yes. He truly see's something not many others do.

If the guys at South Park were pool fans there would be one hell of a Larry Chiborak, Canadian business savant episode in production.... Could very well take up most of a season.

Yeah I hear you. My highest hopes for the game is that it accumulates a niche market within the pool world.

I mean anyone B- speed and above can understand these rules without any problem. It seems there are a ton of posters on here that play atleast that well. I love all games. Backgammon, Gin, and rotation pool... games people love, are no more complicated in my opinion.
