The Color Of Money - What's your favorite Line?

Some pool players that I am pretty sure were in the film, either with a small speaking role or a cameo appearance, would be:

Jimmy Mataya (Julian's friend in Green Room)
Louie Roberts (Standing in line and pool room scenes)
Waterdog (Pool room scenes)
Howard Vickery (in Grady Mathews scene)
Grady Mathews (Dad)
Mike Sigel (Racker, pool room scenes)
Mark Jarvis (Guy at Janelle's)
Steve Mitzerak (Himself)
Keith McCready (Grady Seasons)

My favorite line:

Money won is twice as sweet as money earned. -- Fast Eddie Felson

Newman should have got the Oscar for The Hustler, not TCOM.TH was head and shoulders above TCOM for a lot of reasons.TH was well written, truer to reality, had the feel of pool rooms of that time.TCOM was weak in a lot of its storyline. If TCOM came out first,it would have been a bomb.Because it had The Hustler as a reference,it was successful.

I disagree - TCOM did not need The Hustler as a reference. There were about 20 years between the movies, that's more than a generation of movie audience. I bet that most people who saw this in the cinema had not seen The Hustler.

In the 80s, a movie with Tom Cruise and Paul Newman had its own momentum and got a lot of attention simply because of these names.

Nowadays, I am 41 - no longer young. However, I have not seen The Hustler until about two years ago. I watched TCOM in the 80s, though.

Detlev

Dead thread, come to life.

The color of money was a good book. as good as The Hustler. Wouldn't it be great if they made a movie of it? If you say they did you have not read the book.

"get in the car. This is embarrassing.

You're acting like some girl who got felt up in a drive-in."

I love this exchange when Eddie first starts learning about hustling.

Old Man: "had enough junior"
Vincent: "hold on"
Eddie: "what the hell you doing vincent, beat him and get out of here"
Vincent: "I can't take this guy's money, he has a hole in his throat"
Eddie: "so what"
Vincent: "the guys breaking my heart man. it looks like he is on his last legs. what am I out so far - 60 bucks. No big deal"
Eddie: "no big deal"
Vincent: "want me to quit"
Eddie: "yeah, if you are going to keep on dumping like this. Unless, show me, make it a real performance, show me you can dump like a professional"
Vincent: "like a professional?"
Vincent: "OK chief, play you for 30"
Eddie: "Go around and get the car"
...
Eddie: "You never ease off someone like that, not when there is money involved. That's the problem with mercy kid. It's just aint professional."
