This is definitely one of my favorite cues I have owned. 1969 Joss block letter, just refinished by Josh Treadway and returned to me at SBE.

I acquired this cue on trade at the Southern Cue & Case Show in Chattanooga in late October. Josh did a HELL OF A JOB on this one as it was in VERY BAD condition when I gave it to him. The cue was in a Fellini case without a lid and I found out it was purchased for less than $100 at a yard sale and had been sitting in a garage for MANY years... This cue received a new handle, new joint pin (matching), a few replaced MOP Inlays, new finish and of course a new Irish linen wrap.

It is a real head turner at the pool hall and out of all of the high end cues I have right now it stands out and holds its own...

I will have a hard time parting with this one when the time comes... See the before pictures which are on the next post...

1969 Joss Before & After

congrats Bill, very nice Joss, I like old cues & the history. don aka Sure Man Cues

Spectacular!

Obviously, I am a block letter Joss fan, and it is nice to see your honest comparison to other cues. I have never been able to replace my Joss, try as I might.

And I appreciate the high level of perfection in the proper restoration of the cue.

That is one seriously fine example and it is so fortunate that the cue made it into the proper hands to be dealt with as it deserved.

Thanks so much for showing it off!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

WOW!! That's one of the coolest old JOSS's ever. I'm assuming that the butt-sleeve is "the good stuff"? Love the big block style rings at the joint. BTW, Josh is well on his way to being one of "those guys" in the cuemaking world. Super nice guy on top of his stupidly mad skills.

Damn it Bill....

You just made it take that much longer for Josh to get anything sent to him
finished by telling these guys he's the man  He will get flooded with
work orders now.

By the good stuff, I assume you're referring to the original Implex that Joss used. By the look and the time period, that would be my guess.

And by the way, magnificent cue. Now and then, and older Joss window style cue surfaces, and brings back memories.

All the best,
WW

Really? Implex and not the other "I" word?

In those days of Joss, I think Implex. Plus, I don't see any Ivory grain.

I suspect Bill Stroud may recognize, and may want to comment. We've talked about Implex before.

Oddly enough it is not ivory. Ferrules and some inlays are. I thought it was but even Dan Janes told me at the expo it was the stuff that Meucci used in the VERY BEGINNING and not the Ivorine either... Not sure what it is but it does show the grain in a few spots...

Thanks for confirming. I'm pretty sure from the pictures that it's the Implex that Joss used in those early days. Dan is correct; Ivorine didn't come around for another decade and a half or so. Implex was a nice material, in that it had the look of ivory, without the expense. It made a better sleeve material than buttplate, and I see the buttplate is delrin. This is one very nice Joss cue.
