The DCC

Ok

They wouldnt lose them if everyone had to deposit 100 dollars to get them. I think its a great idea. Those plastic things cant cost much either.

I'm not saying it's not a good idea. It would definitely help. As for the deposit, I'd pay it, not sure about some of the other people who come on a tighter budget than me. I know at least 2 well known players, who the first night at DCC, told me they were flat busted, {one of them had all he brought with him in action, on side bets,}. He won both bets and had plenty the next day. If everyone keeps tossing idea's out, I'm sure Greg will check into the options for next year.

Since the buy-backs seem to be one of the major sources of the delays and glitches, I don't understand why they just don't make the tournaments double elimination. That way everyone knows where everyone stands at all times.

I don't know how many players usually plan on playing only one round, and not buying back, but my guess is that there aren't that many. It would be much simpler to just charge $200 or $225 for a dbl elim, and let it play out. Surely most guys aren't going to balk at paying an extra $75, after having traveled all the way to the venue and paying the related expenses?

I'm probably missing something here. There must have been some reason why the DCC started the single elim/buy-back format to begin with. However, I'd rather see standard double eminiation events.

Doc

I think the whole idea of the buybacks, is to allow those people who come to watch, the option to play. $100 for the pass to watch the whole week, or $110 for a players pass and maybe get to play Efren, Earl, Shannon, or any one of 100 great players who will be there. If you just raise the price to even the total of $160 after buyback, I'd guess you lose at least 25% in the bank event. To me, it's just part of the allure for some of the lower level players, to have that option to play at a lower cost.

Or using those Cell Phone dealies that everyone has. There are ten thousand programs online that allow you to send a text message to anyone. Many of them for free.

All they need is to have every player's cell number and just send out text messages. The player would still be responsible for checking in to see if their match was up BUT sending out text messages would help a LOT.

Totally! I had thought about utilizing those cell dealies too; the main downfalls might be the occasional "delayed" text message that inevitably happens every now and then, and the possibility of poor cell reception in the venue for one or more providers.

As you said, put the ultimate responsibility on the player to check for his match, and if he knows his reception is good 99.9% of the time the text will arrive nearly instantaneously.

A little more info

There is one aspect of this that folks aren't getting. Scores of people think they can do it better than I and they are quite vociferous in telling me that, every year, from Greg on down. This year Greg called me and suggested BIH to start every incoming player's inning Then there was the year that the entry fee was $2,000. I played myself and Freddie and Bill Cardone bothered me the entire time, asking for and suggesting rules changes, while I was playing. That totally ruined my concentration and I played poorly.
I don't know what else to say except that if you think you can do it better, submit a resume to Greg and good luck. By the way, I could answer every criticism wih an intelligent response as to why I did things a certain way but why? I've seen firsthand what kind of attacks and stupid replies that engenders.

The only real complaint I have heard here has been about the "all-in" feature at the end. This comes directly from people with a monetary stake in the ring game. I am not going to blast you about the rule, but you have to admit you would not want to play a guy for two hours and be up on him 14-2 and then suddenly if he makes a ball before you he wins the $$$. I am not saying I could do it any better either. I am just saying the guy voiced a complaint about the ring game just as you did about the DCC.

Shame on them. I say let them go back to their day jobs and find them a forum about making money. Leave the pool forum like this one to the pros. I'd rather read their words of wisdom than wannabes who, by their own admission, can't run three balls in a row.

Let the pool detective and his buddy come out and hide behind their screen names and give me a little bash, or maybe pick on my boyfriend if they can't get at me. Welcome to AzBilliards Discussion Forum, one that is supposed to be about pool.

So, how well do you play???????? Or is the only reason anyone listens to you is because of Keith? I see you had to mention him here, is it because you wouldn't have much to add if it wasn't for him?
BTW, I was gonna Green Rep you for your first couple posts in this thread, but you had to take the turn you always seem to take.

That's right. I have nothing to add to this forum, if it were not for Keith. You got it right. I have never posted one thing on this forum of any merit. It is only when I mention Keith that my posts are pool-related. Thank you so much for pointing out what a non-pool person I truly am. :)

In fact, I don't know a damn thing about pool. Why, I have never picked up a pool cue in my life. I couldn't even run one ball in a row, much less three. What is the difference between 9-ball and 8-ball? I never could figure that out.

14 to 2 ?????

The first year of the bank ring game, Shannon had a big lead on Brian, and they raised the bet, Brian puts a 6 or 7 together and takes the lead.
This year, I believe Brian was way behind, and they were at $1000 a ball, and Brian puts a 5 or so together, to take the lead.
I don't believe it all boils down to just one turn, make it or lose. When it's decided to raise the bet to low man all-in, it's to the chip leaders advantage until the other guy jumps up and puts a 4, 5 or 6 ball package together.

I have a feeling that's not all you have to say.

So is now the time that you will send me a PM and say that you are only joking around and having fun at my expense?

I realized what you were all about after your first few posts. You have really contributed so much content to this forum. I don't know how this place would have ever survived, if it were not for you.

You can red rep me if it makes you feel better.

Are there any other pro players we can bash around here?

It's a new day today, maybe we can alienate Darren Appleton or Alex Lely.

Once we get rid of all the pro's maybe we should turn our sights on those pesky A players.

They took a run at John Schmidt earlier today.

Danny H is in the soup if he cares to poke his head in.

What a wonderful group of knowitalls we have here at AZB.

Remember I do know a few people that know you, I don't feel that you are in a position to go to war with me. Let's leave it at that.

Ask your buddy Tom-Tom. There is nothing you can say about me to him. In fact, ask him what my birthday is, and I'll GUARANTEE you, he knows it.

Better yet, just tell him to call me. I want to give him an earful and hear what he has to say about a few Floridian flying cockroaches.

I did that to try to end the argument, if you're so childish you have to post someones PM then I hope it made you feel better.

Pot calling the kettle black? we all know you are the queen of RED REPPING.
BTW you have not been Red Repped by me in a long time(and only once)

Go rep yourself, Pal. Do it in the privacy of your own bedroom, if need be. You must need it really, really bad.

Give Tom-Tom my regards. Damn, there's that Keith McCready again. If it weren't for him, why, what on earth could I write about on this forum? Sheesh!

Oh, wow. Is that Tom-Tom lurking in the background of this picture? Why, he's the guy who put the felt on my Brunswick a few years ago. Holy mackeral, I knew I had heard of him before.

Why do you insist on bringing other people's names into this thread? Tom-Tom as you say it, has nothing to do with this. I travel all over the country and have met quite a few that know you in real life. He did try to call you a few weeks ago when I was with him but I suspect you already know that.
It's funny that whenever I meet someone that posts on AZ-thay all say you are crazy.

Sure, I am. Haven't you heard? That's why I need to have Keith to write about. If it weren't for Keith, I'd have nothing to say.

Everybody says I am crazy on AzBilliards. You're right. I'm just a nobody trying to be somebody. Thank God, I have Keith.

You can continue to trash me on AzBilliards. You're not even good at it, poor fellow. There's crackpots much better than you who can write hurtful words, attack those who I care about, and depict me with vulgar words.

I already know that Tom-Tom will give me the skinny on you, and I can guarantee you that he would never say I am crazy, but that's because Tom-Tom knows me. Thank the good Lord, you never will.
