The Death of Nine Ball...A Case For Rotation.

The article about the death of nine ball extolled the virtue of 10 ball. However, Shane and others can make the 10 ball game look like a joke and can drane multiple balls on the break. Consider this shane pocketed the 10 in 6 out of his 30 wins in the first day against strickland.

I propose 15 ball rotation as the pro game. Not a run out game. Alot of defense and strategy and a score that viewers can follow. I think rotation would make for better t.v.

What say you????

I would support Rotation... I prefer games of strategy over games that hugely favor high offensive gears...

It would also bring some of the older pros back towards the top... IMO

I think they should spot the 10 if made on the break and the breaker keeps shooting...only for the break. I think that they would spot the 10 if it was made in either corner pocket at the foot of the table during the challenge match with Corey and SVB at Lucky's. That would reduce the "luck" element of winning on the break. I prefer 10 ball over 9 ball. I think the triangle rack is more natural than the diamond 9 ball rack...especially with the wing balls going in a lot in 9 ball not to mention all the other racking "problems". I would love to see a 15 ball rotation challenge though..that would be very enjoyable.

You asked so here goes.

1. Absent the soft break nonsense neither SVB or anyone else make 10 Ball or 9 Ball for that matter a "joke."

2. Re: draining the ten ball 20% of the time, I doubt that is anywhere near his average and either the 9 or the 10 can be spotted (as used to be the case for the 9 ball back in the day) so draining the cheese on the snap can be eliminated BY RULE.

3. Meaning NO disrespect whatsoever to those who enjoy the great and difficult game of rotation, if it replaced 9 Ball, the TV audience would abandon watching in DROVES and what is left of the pro tours would be mortally wounded....IMHO.

Those who KNOW...i.e. those who buy ads on TV shows, DESPISE safety duels and the VAST majority of them are EDITED OUT of the programs!

I spoke my piece in another thread but the observable facts lead to the inescapble conclusion that pool is just not competitive for the TV viewing time or the ticket buying dollars of an audience anywhere close to the degree necessary to meaningfully boost this sport.

If anyone has access to the TV ratings for, say the last WPC or Mosconi, I would be interested in seeing the rating/share data.

Just IMHO.

I would love to see more rotation. One of the best games I've ever played in was a 15 ball rotation ring game that you got paid by everyone for every ball! We use to start the night at a buck a ball with 4 or 5 players and it would usually end around 7am with 2 players at $5 a ball.
Loved it, so how about a point a ball, race to whatever.

The major flaw with 15 ball rotation is the fact that the points increase as the game gets easier. The last 6 balls in rotation are far easier to run then the first 6 but those last 6 balls are worth far more points.

The simple fix would be to make each ball worth 1 point and have sets be race to 60, 75, 90, ect.... points. Person who potted the last ball of the last rack breaks the next game hitting the head ball (which would be the 1 ball) first.

This would be a dramatically better game for pro level pool, and it would be taken up very well at the amature level, the ability to make short tournament sets be first person to 8 points wins.

Most of the rules of 9-ball would work, ball in hand for fouls and whatnot.

I WISH someone would give such a game a try, put in some added money and run a tourney with the game above and see how the pro's deal with it and like it as a true test of their skill. The cream really would rise to the top in such a game. And a point based game like this is far better for stat crunchers, imagine the high runs and whatnot. It would be a throwback to straight pool in that respect.

That is an awsome idea. I hope someone who is in a position of influence will try it. JCIN from action report can you set this up???????
