The Decider Day One Thoughts

I enjoyed it VERY much. It wasn't TAR or Accu-Stats quality production, but it didn't suck, at all. The team fought hard to bring it, and overcame serious issues.

From BFE Montana tonight, Shane played arguably the best 9 ball player ever, on a bar box. Shane finished this set in fashion. Earl has 2 more days to fight back after a 30 - 20 loss tonight, that was a LOT closer than the score indicates.

8 ball tomorrow. Well done T-Wheels.

Me personally liked it. Never really liked 9 ball on a barbox its just way to easy, esp for the pros. I like to watch 8 ball on the bar box and to watch one who is considered the best 8 ball barbox player in the world play tomorrow is a real treat. So cant wait for that. As for today i thought i would of seen more break and runs, but the play and stream was perfect and without one freeze.

I was rather surprised, and, I have to admit, rather disappointed . To be honest, I was expecting and looking forward to a lot of break and runnouts. There were amazingly few. They each only had seven, and only one three pack, and each had a two pack.

I figured with those two, and especially with arguably the best breaker in the world, there would be a lot of B&R's. Their position play wasn't near as tight as I expected either. In fact, everything looked basically the same as them playing on a 9' table, even the stats.
Everyone says 7' are so easy, but the stats showed differently.

I was also surprised at how hard they were hitting a lot of the balls. Especially Shane, since he's supposed to be a bar table expert. Now, don't get me wrong, the play was great. But, not what I expected from those two.

Your right Neil. I know a good Road player that beats the ghost betting high on a 9 ft diamond, but lost 7,000 and a week later 2000, trying to beat the ghost on a diamond barbox. He hooked himself a few times and started playing area shape and as you know that will catch up with you. Like you, I would have expected both to put together at least a 5 or more.

I really liked it too. but has been stated I was kind of surprised how hard they were hitting and they both missed some shots that I thought no way they would miss. It seemed neither one could really get the speed of the table just right. earl would hook himself; shane would come up long or short and just hit them to get out of it. Well done production though.

I enjoyed it. It did seem that the table speed seemed to be a bit perplexing to both players. At times it seemed incredibly fast other times not so much.

I am glad that you guys enjoyed the 9-Ball. Earl and Shane were both a little stunned about the break and runs. However they did say this table is not easy and its pretty fast.

Lets see how things go today with the 8-Ball starts at 4pm EST or 1pm Pacific.

I enjoyed the play OK, up until Earl got behind several games near the end and started throwing his cue at the ball as he is known to do. Otherwise, I agree that it was a lot closer than the final score leads one to believe. Very good aggressive bar box pool IMO.

OTOH I have a few quibbles with the production quality. Video looked good and clear, with very little choppiness at my end. However, I personally hated the camera placements. Too close, and placed at angles that severely distorted the table geometry. They didn't allow the best view of the action, and those humongous score banners and logos are set way too far inside the screen frame and interfere with the view of many shots.

Then there was the lack of even acceptable commentary, coupled with the constant sound of DB clacking away on the keyboard, or having his cell vibrating on the table and being picked up by the mic. Very annoying, and completely unnecessary. If you aren't going to commentate, please turn down the freakin' mics in the booth. This is PPV, not some free stream. Oh, and get a mic out closer to the table. We love to hear Earl's rants.

The most telling observation I got from it all is the extremely dismal PPV sales for this event. Two of the best rotation players to ever grace the planet, with a longstanding rivalry between the two, and they sold less than 40 packages by the day before in spite of a free $30 Kamui tip? Did they even break the 100 viewer mark? That is just sick.

I'm as broke as I've ever been at this juncture in life, yet I don't mind swinging $35 bucks toward pro pool so it is there for us all to watch it. I'm not sure I'll even get to see most of today's or tomorrow's matches because they are starting so early (got things to do and money to try to make), but I bought the whole weekend mostly to be supportive. With all the thousands of AZers posting crap about the pros every day you'd think POV Pool would get at least several hundred viewers to cover their nut. Oh, well, their loss is my gain. Great shooting, Shane and Earl, it was worth the price and then some.

Shane doesn't hit a practice ball and Earl says, "I treat this like an exhibition", before he caught himself and said, "I mean I'm going to try", or something like that. Those two things said it all for me. Johnnyt

Good point JohnnyT. That was kind of a turn off

The way I interpreted all that was that Shane was letting Earl know ahead of time that he didn't stand a chance on a bar box against him, and that Earl was getting together an excuse for why he would eventually lose.

Heck, we didn't give Earl a chance on the 10' table (and he won there), but I don't think anybody gave Earl a serious shot at winning against Shane on a bar box. It would have shocked me to tell the truth. I just wanted to see how well he could do. He put up a pretty good fight for most of the match IMO. What more could anyone expect?

They did break the 100 viewer mark, but it should have been much higher. Too many people on here think that bartables are a joke. Of course, they couldn't be more wrong about that. But, I guess that if people here something enough times, they start to believe it.

What killed Earl was hooking himself a few too many times when he shouldn't have. If not for that, Earl would have won. It was still close at 17-20, then a few more positional errors cost him big time.

Enjoyed it a lot, would have enjoyed it more if it was alternate break. Alternate break helps to even things up on a bar table.

Agree with the comment about the annoying clacking of a keyboard but I'm quite sure that after that comment it won't happen again, these POV folks are very customer friendly.

As for the commentary, it is hard to comment when a table is being run so fast. Enjoyed the conversation though.

Looking forward to tonight's 8 Ball and the 10 Ball tomorrow.

I doubt Earl & Shane have played much on a bar box lately. I suspect today's and tomorrow's play level to get better and better as they get more acclimated.
Maybe someone should go to Walmart, buy a portable heater and put it under the table. ;)

Bring it today guys (and suck it up Earl). It's 8 ball time! Looking forward to it!

And IIRC, they're playing for what... $1500 per day? That's not an exhibition if true.

Their loss is your gain? I don't follow the logic.

I thought the video quality was great. But this being a ppv event, it needed some good commentary. I second the idea of a mic under the table for Earl :)

Overall, it was a good match, but at times, I was disappointed with the level of play from both Earl and Shane. Both of them missed a lot of shots that you would not expect them to, especially on a bar table. It looked like Shane did not take it seriously. He was out fishing and said he wouldn't hit a single ball on the table up until the match. That showed in the match as he was struggling with the speed of the table. Earl started off well but went into give up mode after he fell 7 racks or so behind.

Hopefully, now that they have got their hands on the table, we will see a great 8 ball and 10 ball match.

i want a microphone on Earl! he's got more to say than Daniel's counting-down each ball. and zoom-in shots of Shane simply smiling @ his every comment made....

I have watched Shane play a lot of bar box at Fargo Billiards, and I have never seen him play that poorly. Very surprised. He plays much better than he showed last night.

I believe tonight will be a lot different. Hope they play last pocket, because he really shines at that game.

We said the same thing last night about table sizes, just because it is smaller doesn't mean the game is easier. Great observations.
