The distant rumblings and ramblings of a pool nut.

As a cadet: uh oh, Ramblin'. During basic training we had time in tents in the Valley, Jack's Valley. There was an award for Mean Mother of the Valley. It wasn't me.🤷 No Neck Eck won that award. I did get a first that's not recorded (I assume). One week of wilderness survival in group s of 500. The second week was my group. I was first to the campground that had the barbecue. A small steak and baked potato was all the stomach could hold. Might have been a 10 mile treck. Staying together (10 in my uh squadron?) Until the trail became obvious.

How many pro pool players were fighters? Racetrack Rick was the bar table champion. Ring game champion record for multiple money balls with one before the 5 and two before the 9. Can't remember the 5's but at least two fives and three 9's with the narrow ist miss on the 4th nine. He fought at 120(I think). Brought the attack to the ring game.
Seems like I already had two fives and four nine s marked.🤷😉

One handed day: Time to laugh at the left. As the right hand had exclusively one handed practice after the left turn car launch.

Taking the night off from pool to let my body rest up. I can feel the table sitting in the basement with a broken heart. I'll drink a red beer and contemplate my next plan of attack.

The shooting platform: Rehtorical question; Self to self, over.
Yes what? Equipment? Yes yes yea, a new shaft!!! No no no, a tip a tip, that will do it.
I have a tip. Don't buy a burning house.
Whew, huh?
Building the platform requires physical fitness program. Simple keep me fit and entertainment.
Jiu Jitso is all about leverage. I want a platform that requires the less muscle tension. My prone position.
Following yoga forms in even small doses is fun part of the morning fitness.

The Rifle Drill:
Saturday morning inspection. Seems like it was the Green Onion. Our bald Marine Group Commander. Probably not but anyway the story goes like this.
In ranks at present arms with our M-1 rifles. The officers would inspect ranks. The officer would turn to face you and it was required to relinquish your rifle for inspection. This officer like to come from down low with a quick snatch catching the rifle mid between hands. Then give a ration of Shit for not releasing soon enough or at all.
He picked the wrong Basic to mess with, as he had performed in the Rifle Drill Team at the prep school. When the Colonels hand touched the rifle, his were at his sides at attention. The officer was so sure and full of himself that the power he invested... took the rifle well overhead. 😁
Hard to avoid the squadron smirk. But must suppress the chuckle.

Our Green Onion was group 4 commander. As a marine corps pilot he had planted his quota of F-4's, so they sent him to USAFA.

Graduation from Falcon to Bald Eagle. Ta Da.
Chase Tail came as a modification of Colin's shot making drill that I got from Dr Dave's archives.
My opening shot is 1 of 17. Cue ball head spot 1 ball foot spot. Straight double kiss. Hit perfect would send cue ball back to Head rail and rebound for another kiss. 3 or maybe 4 in history.
Shoot till miss then change hands. No Chalk!

This is a fine prop shot. You put the money you are playing for tucked under the head rail centered on the diamond. Shoot as described, cue ball has to pass over the money to win. I doubt many of us can do that with one try. Five? Ten? I don't know what it would take as a prop bet with decent odds. Hopefully you can rope in a few people to try so you are getting odds on the money.

My thing when I walked into a place with plenty of people but no action was to shoot head spot to foot spot and pocket the ball on the foot spot without scratching. Of course when I am trying by myself I could find lots of points and almost shots while rarely pocketing the ball. Soon there are people wanting to show me how. "OK, a dollar a shot."

Now I have three or four people betting a dollar on one shot when they wouldn't bet a beer on a game. Funniest thing, while intuition can persuade someone in a bar that this is a natural scratch, it isn't. "No scratch" was just a little burr to put in their head to distract them from pocketing the ball. People did manage to scratch all kinds of ways fighting to avoid the scratch that wasn't there.

Good Times!

League play: My first pool league experience was playing for The White Spot in Fife.(Now The Right Spot, and a good place to eat. I mean Great place to eat.)
In the championship game on home court......I played to the 8, leaving the cue ball on the proverbial 50 yard line. My opponent would win if I miss my shot. So with the pumpkin ball I was not sure of the cut to the side or cut to the corner as both looked like scratch to me. So I called the coach, our team captain, Tim. I inquire, " which way? What do you think?" I got, "Uh or oh well, gee?" So I inquire, "what about the cross corner bank?" As it looked straight to me. Tim's response was, "uh well....can you feel it?" My reply was, "one way to find out."
Conference over.
Pow Splat, we had the trophy!!

Note to self: The head is a terrible at playing pool. Feel the shot and shoot it. The rest will work itself out.

Funny as it seems, sometimes the harder shot is the right one. You visualize one shot easily, can't "see" the other one. Time to shoot the one you see dropping in the pocket! When I get annoyed about an eyeball out of calibration for tough cuts I'll start banking. I will make more balls and it gets my eyes back in calibration!

In 8 ball I sometimes get a ball near the 3rd diamond on the side rail. All alone and blocked to both corners. I will play for the bank... right away. I prefer the bank to try to move it. Move it can go from frying pan to fire. Bank should be simple as long as I can get the angle I want.🤷

The wisdom in the Jagermeister... Gotta take it easy to make it easy.

Rough day. Been dealing with sciatic pain since last Friday night pool practice. Took 3 hours vacation and went to the chiropractor and he got it moving. The joint along your tailbone and pelvis. It's moving now but damn does it hurt. Keep it on an even keel until the weekend and it's time to smoke some foos.

Physical rehab rubber bands, and conscious posture for the next 3 days... and it's over. I'll offer a spot! 😅
🤣

The human back, at once, is both elegantly designed and a travesty.

"I have decided, you can bring me a lighter." Was what an inmate told me when I was working at the High Desert state prison in Susanville CA. I flash on that listen to the News where uh The Next Inmate said, "I have decided You can give me a pardon." 🤷

Lake city red, got me fired up with the word "cheat" . He was trying to distract but managed to enrage.🤷
My first win in a Big boy tournament. At least 12 Players. Whew .. .... get me fired up. My reply was to the effect of, "you will never see me cheating, on anything but taxes."🤷

After my regular $50 harvest, Friday night, I was slow to start At an ungodly time Saturday morning. Went down 3-0 to a house player going to 4!: I looked over and saw Clyd(who was Favorite) sweating my game. Well I survived and played him next. I beat him 4-0. Flames were coming from his nostrils. It was Clyde that Red was whining to trying to distract.🤷 Guess he thought he was playing with the kids.🤷😉

Survival, Escape, Resistance and Evasion. That was the real stuff. The Survival came in a one week session. Three with 500@ to roughly get the income of basics. The other 3 came on the concentration camp internment after fake capture.
My theory on Resistance was, don't pay attention at briefing. Can't reveal what I don't know.🤷 Well it got me a ticket to the reactionary tent. They hold you down with a laundry bag pulled tight over your head, then pour water over it. (Waterboarding) I was in the breach. On deck 😉 When an adrupt halt came. The water was in 5 gallon jeep tanks. Somehow a 5 gallon of fuel got used. Causing medical distress. I missed it by that much.
