The DP event in Louisiana........

No, it will not be streamed because Charlie(Owner of DP) wanted Ray to pay DP to stream the event. So Ray and his crew are going to Mobile. Charlie made a bad business descision for sure!

...................

no one works as hard for our sport as bigtruck(ray). i dont blame ray for not paying...................... gee thanks charlie, from all of us.

Yea I dont blame him either. I think if he would have been able to work with Keith(Owner of Emeralds) he would have been able to come. I guess he couldnt work anything out because its a DP event? Its crap either way. Yet another bad thing that conicides with DP. Im still going shoot the Tourney, but its for Emerald Billiards, not DP.

Just like some of the big time sports guys, I guess. Some people are all about the money, instead of helping promote the sport.

If we could have done it, I would have loved to get something together to help the Truck come down here for this event!!

Yea that does suck. People need to realize what exposure does for their business. I mean does the charge associated with getting Bigtruck in to stream the event outweigh the exposure of your own event to a world wide audience? I could understand if it was a question of doing the stream in house or farming it out......but it still needs to be streamed regardless.......jmho

Charlie if you are reading this you can see, it is a very non-popular decision so far.

You should explain if there is a logical one.

Alot of pool people are going to see this and whatever comes behind it !

Not to many things that appear to be wrong gets past AZers !

Charlie is one of those people that if he is doing or selling something it is worth 1000x what it really is. His ego is out of whack.

Hard to believe he is so dumb to think somebody would pay him to stream his even on the internet. The turnout is going to be bad for the event anyway. I would much rather be at Ricky Byrd's place.

Maybe the guy was going to have to have a special internet connection installed to accommodate the stream and wanted Ray to help with the cost, I don't know. But in any case this seems like one of the worse business moves I've heard of. If he had no internet available he should have just explained that. I guess he just has too much business and doesn't want to be bothered with having to count more money! lol

I beleive a stream came out of this same place not to long ago. Although it may have been a weak signal !

Why am I the only one that thinks a stream wont make or break an event/this event? It's nice to have, but not mandatory. Maybe in a few years it will be, but right now it's just jelly, imo.

Don't get me wrong, I would love a stream for this event, but to bash Charlie saying it was a bad business move to not have a stream does not make sense to me.

Or, are you bashing him because he wanted Ray to pay? If that is the case, then let's be clear what everyone is unhappy about - it's two different issues to me.

No one said it would make or break the event. I just feel he's missing out on the opportunity to have some worldwide exposure for his business and expecting Ray, to pay him for giving him that exposure is very shortsighted. That's why I feel it's a bad business move! Of course it's great for the people who can't attend the event as well. I think he made it a lose/lose situation when it could have been win/win.

So, every tournament that doesn't stream is in the same category?

Well it's obvious everyone on this forum wants free streaming.

I don't know Charlie but I think you're a missing the point here. A small pool hall owner is living on the financial edge. So I have strong feelings for their right to try and stay alive. They know the business far better than AZforum members.

The amount of money a local pool hall is going to see from worldwide exposure is a big fat zero. The pool owner lives and dies on those dollars that come in or don't come in if someone local stays home and watches a stream.

In all successful sports the broadcasters pay a fee for getting the right to cover an event. To this day Football and Baseball black out games that can affect the gate. If big sports think it's viable to do that why shouldn't the pool room owner. I think the pool room owner probably doesn't need to ask Ray for money but he certainly has every right to not have streaming. Ray would argue that a stream can bring more people down to watch. That's a very debatable point and why should the pool hall owner risk the few dollars he needs in hopes of breaking even or gawd forbid make a little money.
