The FATBOY CHALLENGE TEN BALL

We had the first day of the One Pocket Challenge today. Some of the players participating were Gabe Owen, John Schmidt, Corey, Mika and Rafael. The high run all day was Corey's 38. Schmidt had a 37 and so did Mika. The last round of the day was Mika's, and he shot an amazing 53. He got a 5, 13, 15, 15 and another 5. Two perfect 15's back to back. One more day to go. I have a feeling Mika's 53 will win it.

If I'm gonna do any woofing at anyone, it will be the guys I'm sure I can beat, or at least be gambling with. That's why I have the same stakehorse for the last 14 years. I work for a living, and know what the rules are for matching up. Even with weight, my consistency ain't what it needs to be to play with those fella's. I'm capable of short spurts of good play, but thats about it.
Like Clint Eastwood said in one of his movies, "a man's gotta know his limitations".
Smart cookie! Ask him to play banks. I haven't seen banks played here competitively except when Gomez and I get bored putzing around with the same ol' games. You've beaten LVC in banks right?

SVB may very well be the man for that match.

On a side note how in the world is Earl and Johnny not there?

Well I"ve seen two matches with LVC vs SVB and Shane lost both times.

That is why I prefer seeing a TAR match between SVB and CORTEZA compared to an SVB vs BUSTAMANTE one. In the absence of Alex Pagulayan, I think Corteza vs SVB is more exciting to watch.

How did the Martinez/Chohan 1p match turn out?

Chohan 11-8 for 20K. Just another day at the office.
Same night Ronnie Wiseman beat Gabe for 10K, getting 9-7. The partners went from broke to holding in only a few days. That's DCC for you. Many big games here every night. The pool economy seems the same as always.

I bet the Horseshoe Casino pit bosses were there watching, licking there chops in hope of team T-Rex winning the cash.

I would have picked Chohan to win - last time I saw Rafael play one pocket (against Ronnie Allen) he was so offensive in his strategy that he was trying to kick in balls that were sitting in the kitchen, coming off the end rail. He sold out almost every time.

Wiseman beating Gabe @ 9-7 is a surprise, at least to me.

A dream come true...

My assessment of the finals. Ralf scratched on the break four times in the first half of the match. Then he missed four or five makeable balls in the second half of the match. He still had a chance to win. Lee Van got a couple of fortuitous rolls as well. He was blessed in this match and also his semi with Mika. Ralf played his only bad match of the tournament in the finals.

Lee Van is a great player, and deserves the win. He's a humble guy and a great money player. Ralf will continue to do what he does best, win tournaments.

I look for Shane to play Francisco next. That's the buzz around here. Big matches last night included T-Rex playing Rafael even up One Pocket for ten large. Cardone was playing Monster John for some serious cheese as well. I didn't hang, I was too tired. Ron Wiseman beat Gabe the night before for 10K, getting 9-7.

On to the One Pocket Challenge today. P.S. Johnny is here, he'll be playing in the 9-Ball.

I would like to thank Jay and Erik for allowing me to be a part of the 1st Fatboy challenge. They were kind enough to allow me to assist them in the tournament. I was able to witness some of the best matches I have ever seen, live and in my face. Again thank you Jay and Eric for your kindness.

This was my first time at the Derby and it was all I thought it would be and so much more. The level of play and the accessibility of the players was amazing. I was able to get many autographs and meet and talk to players you can only see on TV. I acted like a tourist and tried to be everywhere at once.

The forum members that I met were some of the best people I have had the good fortune of meeting in my lifetime. Marcus, SJM, SanJoseDick, cornerman, SteveLomako,Sunnyday, Mark, ChicagoMike, Chris Byrne, JoeyA, and many more whose names escape me at the moment.

I am making plans for next year and I plan to play in all the events. We had to leave fast as the window opened for us to drive out after the storm, before the roads iced over. We are from Florida, so the snow and ice was a little strange at best. lol The point being, I didn't get to say any goodbyes to anyone. My apoligies.

Yeah I forgot to thank Jay for signing everyone up, running it and I'm sure making it all run as smooth as it possibly could have been.
