Are you guys working off of a picture of Mr. Manzino's work or memory?

Well the good news is at least Scott probably won't sell the cue for $500 the first time he books a loser.

Beautiful work!
I watched "what's in the case" with Scott Frost, and on his playing cue there was the same silver ringwork.
Obviously he likes that design )
Can't wait to see it finished ;)

It's nice to see more cuemakers like QB posting their work.
I like to look at the different designs, and it just makes things more interesting in the gallery.
.
Some people like to have a second username just to make anonymous comments to show off and pick on people, which is really weird, but there's one in every city so it's just part of the online forum experience.

Good looking cue, can't wait to see the finished product. Good luck to you guys and Scott. Nothing negative to say here.

Thanks for the pics, Jerry

I don't condone the comments about Scott.
The poster asked if the design was influenced by Manzino's past work. I'll be honest I've seen many Manzino's with this signature design. I understand the inlay isn't exact, and it's not a knock off.
Many have been posted here.
Fourkingcues post below is probably one of the cues that brought up the question.

The confusion in thsi thread is exactly why I don't use "canned" clip-art designs in any of my cues. Instead, I get my design ideas from lamps, or neckties, or ceramic vases, or interesting architecture, etc. So if someone ever wants to challenge n inlay design I do as a being a "copy" or a "knock-off" I can provide the original inspiration, but that never has been and never will be stock available designs that anyone could find in a Dover book or online clip-art.

I know of at least two cuemakers who have inexpensive software they use to "build" Celtic knot-work. While not exactly "cheating", it's not particularly creative either. Besides, I kind of like the challenge of conquering the geometry and math required to build knot-work from scratch. And, again, I never have to worry about being accused of using someone else's design.

TW,
You use designs that are in Lamps, neckties, ceramic vases, or even architecture? Where do you think those designs originated that they used?
Many are copied from Renaissance Art to 18th-20th Century art.
So the guy who made the tie, or lamp or architecture, pencil drew the design? Not likely... Most of these designs on objects and buildings you admit using, have come from hundreds of years ago in other designs. Unless you can ask the tie maker where he got the design that you used, this is a mute point. What if another cue maker saw that same tie or vase and made a cue? Then its not an original idea.

I guess we have to split hairs and say, if anyone doesn't free hand in pencil a design from there imagination it is not creative. These Renaissance designs have been used for centuries in everyday things we see, but that must all stop for cue making:)
Creativity is putting together elements to flow together in a whole design, not just single pieces. Even if someone manages to do that, having the talent and execution to put that in a round piece of wood make them special.

Best,
Ken
