What is the story on the GLENN family? I've seen that they have a huge Bushka and Boti' collection from the Billiard Encyclopedia. Any stories on them? Seems as though they were pioneers in cue collecting? I don't remember reading anything on AZ so figured I would ask. Thanks.

I could be mistaken but the older Glenn patriarch passed through New Orleans about 8 years ago and asked me to play some one pocket. Nice guy...He never purchased any cue sticks and didn't have any special ones with him that he showed me but he did beat me out of $200 playing even up and I have been looking for him ever since but he's even harder to get to the table than Jay Helfert.

Nice guy & had a young player with him who beat Baby Frank giving him 9/7 & Frank can play some & has been torturing me lately. I guess the sons are in their 60's and maybe someone from Arizona knows more about them and their cue collection. John

You're right. His name was Pete, now that you've jogged my memory but he was by himself or he just left his ace sitting at the bar since he saw it was only me.

The Glenn clan is a great bunch to know. They were there in force at DCC this year. Son Steve plays the best of the off spring, but nowhere near papa Pete's former speed.

Pete Glenn was one of the greatest undercover pool players who ever lived. Kind of a discount Jack Cooney. He didn't lurk around for months hiding in the shadows either. He would walk in and challenge good players (not necessarily the top players) to a game of Banks or One Pocket. And play for decent stakes. After all, he was raising a family of seven on his pool winnings.

Pete was always a gentleman. I never heard him raise his voice, only the bet. And once in action, he was all business. I was thrilled to see him again after all these years. He mostly played around Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. His family was residing in Cincy.

He is about 80 years old now, and looks like a more dignified version of Puckett. Pete always was a handsome man and still is. His presence commands attention even today. If you saw him you will never forget him.

By the way, his sons Denny, Steve and Dale are all good men, cut from the same cloth as Dad.

Their collection of Szamboti, Balabushka and other old cues, many owned by famous players, is probably second to none.

I have done business with Denny, he and his brothers are good people.

Yes, that is a recent picture of me at Hard Times. You can tell how I am doing by how cheerful I am. Baby Frank was probably whupping on me again.

The sons aren't quite that old. I would guess them to be late 40's/early 50's. At least, I only know two of the sons and I guess them to be about that age. He may have other sons that are older.

I've never seen their collection, but I have seen Steve play with several different cues - all very nice cues.

I know Pete quite well although I haven't seen him in about three years now. He is from Newport Ky, right across the river from Cincinnati. He still plays one-hole and banks pretty fair at around 80 years of age. He seldom looses as he matches up real well and plays extremely conservative. He used to make it back to the Cincinnati area every December around Christmas to visit his mother who just died around three years ago. Every time he would be in the area he would buy 4 or 5 cues from me to sell and trade while being on the road.

When younger he was a pretty good road player and ran with Joey Spaeth some. Years ago he moved to Arizona an opened a pool hall. I guess he sold it as he has been traveling around the country wheeling and dealing in cues and practicing one-hole for the last 25 or 30 years.

The last time I talked with him he said that they had around 65 Balabushkas and 65 Szambotis along with many other collectible cues. He said that most of there cues have a history to them such as the Rambow that Willie ran the 526 or Jimmie Reeds Szamboti that he won the US Open with and so forth. Pete used to always carry at least one Szamboti, one Balabushka, and a half dozen other highly collectible cues with him on his trips around the country. He often practices with one of these cues unless he has picked up a cue that he wants to sell or trade and then he would be playing with that cue.

I spent some time with Pete Glenn two or three years ago when he was around Colorado Springs for a while. Very much the gentleman and still played a very good game of one pocket. He bought a very nice Szamboti from a friend of mine. He had a trunk full of cues with him, but, we didn't really explore them. Very nice man.

Hah!! I talked to both Pete and Denny tonight at Michael's Billiards where Bartram and Alex are playing. They stopped in around 3:00am and stayed for a couple hours. They were on their way back cross country coming from N.Y. Pete said that Denny had a 40th anniversary to go to there or some such thing. Pete still doesn't look 70 although I know he's over 80. He is now sporting a full beard and a pony tail. Second childhood I guess. He is just as chipper as ever. You do know that his mother only died three or four years ago.

THe Glenns probably own the nicest collection of Balabushkas in the world,I have spent many the hour looking at them.Denny buys most of the cues for the collection,and pays really fair prices,but he hardly ever buys a cue that has been shown around,or had pictures on a forum or such.If you want to sell him a cue call him before you start showing it around.Send him the cue for verification,he is completely trustworthy.

He can be reached in Houston , Texas call me for the number,but he is not the one to send a phony to,he is the no.1 expert in the world and the only one I would ask to verify a Szam or Balabushka other than Barry.
