i'm posting this, not for an argument, or rebutal. i am just putting this out there as a fact, for me anyway, in other words in my opinion. out of all the pool players i ever saw in my life, and you could imagine how many pros that is, i've been playing pool since 1968! out of everyone, jimmy moore, danny barouty, jean balukis, mike sigel, jim rempe, karen corr, francisco bustamante, efren reyes, fong pang chao, etc. etc. the single most PERFECT player, the most incredible player, the one who has the total package, the tiger woods of pool if you will, is ALLISON FISHER in 1998/1999. ladies and gentleman, i've seen it all. every pro, every style, every talent, but no player ever reached the talents and god given skill level of allison back in 98' and 99'. what was it about allison's game back then that excelled? well, i will try to list the reasons. comfort level, after being on american soil for 3 years, she settled in and was tucked in and comfterable, to KICK FUCKING ASS! sorry, but it's true! she felt good! next, her snooker fundementals tore every female on tour a second asshole! sorry again, for being a fouled mouth person, but i get very very emmotional when speaking of allison fisher. it's like talking about the beatles, they were THEE BEST! her fundamentals carried her. her position was the greatest any human being ever witnessed since the great willie mosconi. her position was 19 degrees and 6 inches 95% of the time. meaning a 10 year old could have made 99% of her shots!!!!!!!!!!!! now THAT'S position folks!!!!!!!! her demeaneur was perfect. she never ever got ahead of herself, never, got upset, and never was laxadazial about her game. she always showed the same expression on her face=nothing! and finally her will to dominate was stronger than any human. i will say this, in 1998-1999, allison fisher would have beaten effren reyes, francisco bustamante, earl strickland and johnny archer. i say this, not for evil responses, just a fact, just a fact. p.s. if you have ANY doubts, go to the tapes! you will witness a perfect "killing machine"

i was just stateing fact. a women can play better than all the men, if the wind is blowing the right way, sort of speak.

Silencer, I agree...Allison is great!

You two just made yourselves the laughing stock of this board. I'll tell you what great pool is. It's when Johnny Archer runs 11 and out against Francisco, to win the set, and Francisco asks Johnny to double the bet right after losing that set 11-0. It's when Efren does a magical shot in a game of one pocket that turns what is a seemingly inescapable trap on him into an inescapable trap on his opponent. It's when Mike Sigel runs a perfect 150 and out in straight pool.

You have no idea what great pool is. Back in 98', if Efren was in dead punch and Allison is in dead punch, she gets robbed with the 5 ball.

i'll put my money on a top male player any day over a female pool player. Not saying that Allison isn't a great player heck she can be in the top standing in tournaments where they include both male and female.

The women do play great, and in quite a few tournaments some strong male players have lost to strong female players, but I just can't say that I've ever heard of Allison running an 11-pack on somebody not using a Sardo rack. I don't really think Allison has run more than 5 or 6 racks in a row even with the Sardo rack.

Graetest pool I saw were; the final day of World 8-Ball back in 97. Bustamante had three matches, Coltrain, Wetch then Archer in the finals. Bustamante missed two balls all day. Ran over the 3 like rag dolls.
Efren against Mizerak the year before that in the semis. Miz got to the table twice. Once after Efren missed the 8 laughing. Efren ran rack after rack after that.
Bustamante's run was even more amazing considering they were playing on Diamond table with those nasty pockets.

Yes, but last two, what do you think of women players as a whole?

go back to the basics

I think you need to get a dictionary and learn the difference between a fact and a opinion. You have every right to your opinion. Even if the facts dont back up your opinions. You have a right! But why drag out this lame argument every 3 months. Why put Alison or any other woman in that embarassing position?! Its like the parent who thinks his/her child is perfect and the cutest, the most talented, etc. Yes they are right. To that parent. But think of the child who has to live by those standards. Woman dont need to be compared to men. Let them stand on their own.

The profaness of your language does nothing to further your opinions either.

And the following, .

BTW- from Ted Harris' website- spot given to Karen Corr by Ginky (as if you had to ask!):

"...Lost to Karen Corr...spotted the break & 5 games to 11...11-10,11-10...Amsterdam Billiard Club...New York, NY...1999"

To steal another cliche- It isn't how many balls you make, it's who you make 'em against.

Well said. Thank you.

It is my opinion that most female pool players are awesome. They really have to pay their dues from day one to get any respect at all. Not to mention that the stigma of the old "pool hall" and a female's reputation was something that had to be overcome by all women who just wanted to play.

Thank God that has mostly changed in recent years even if some neanderthal male types still live and think in the dark ages. Thankfully again, I have not run into too many men like that lately!

I guess we really just have to take it from the pros themselves. Efren, when asked whom he thought was his greatest competition in the sport, replied that there was a player on the women's tour that can beat him anytime. And I think he was referring to Allison Fisher. Wouldn't we all love to see that one!

Efren beat Jeanette Lee silly one time in Manila. Someone please organize this dream competition between Efren and Allison!!!

I for one would like to see many other matchups instead of this one. My dream match up is Efren versus Shannon-one hole. Efren vs Jose-rotation or one pocket. Efren vs Ceulmans-balkline. Somehow watching a man compete with a women does nothing for me. I guess I cant grasp why other men have a passion for this. I think Alison would not want any of this. I heard she was offered a spot by one of Efrens Manila's backers and she didnt like it. She is a pro's pro why should she put herself into a 3 ring circus.

Oh and where is this quote that Efren said that a woman on the tour could beat him. I would like to see that for myself. Efren is a big joker if you know him. He always downplays his game. How many times have you heard him say "I got lucky". But if you believe this then let me introduce you to a couple of pool players who would swear on a stack of bibles that they couldnt beat my grannie. I remember Jimmy Reid once saying we got to play even up you're good. Yeah uh-huh. Or Ronnie Allen who would say sure I can give you a ball but thats all because you play good. Yeah right! Ronnie I couldnt beat you getting 3 balls and you shooting one handed.

As a whole I think most of them play very good. I just can't see any way of comparing them to the men pro players. I have alot of respect for the women players, and the way they carry themselves.

In all honesty, I don't really think there is a gender difference that makes the male champions play better than the female champions.

The reason why the top males play better is simple. You look at Efren, the guy lived on a pool table. He slept in a poolroom, he's spent his whole life playing the game twice as long as Allison has, if you estimate the hours he's spent on the table.

Allison has been playing a long time, but add everything up, she probably hasn't been playing half as long as Efren. Plus, Allison is the best female player (IMO), so I don't have to say anything else.

Had Allison done the same thing when she was very young, she might just be able to play as good as Efren. Find me a female player who has ate, slept, and lived pool from her very early childhood, and that just might close off the gender gap.

Just to clear some things up:

- Johnny ran 13 racks against Bustamante - not 11. It's a pretty famous incident. Earl Strickland once ran 11 racks in a tournament for $1 million. I think that was impressive too.
- Allison Fisher has probably spent more hours at practice than all the posters on this board combined.
- Allison has been offered weight for gambling purposes many times. She has accepted twice that I am aware of, once from Tony Watson and once from Cliff Joyner. She won once and lost the other time. I believe she received the 6 ball.
- while a snooker player, Allison played on the men's tour as well as on the women's. She did that for a few seasons but never did make it into the top 100 on the tour, despite ferocious dedication. If you pick Efren as the #1 nine-ball player in the world then I would wager that he would have as much trouble beating her as the current #1 ranked snooker player would have defeating the current #100 - in other words some, but not too much.

This is not meant as a knock to Allison, no more than would saying that Sorenstam cannot defeat Woods, or that Serena Williams cannot defeat Agassi. Comparisons between gender sports are apples against oranges and unfair to both parties.

About Efren being 24/7 in a pool hall. Efren has a family. A wife and kids. Also a very big extended family. Allison is solo. Her responsibility is basically to herself. Anyone who has a family knows the time and energy to raise those children and keep a household running is another job. I dont think Efren is exempt from these commitments. It is why you might not hear from him for months at a time. He is with his family. And anyone who has family knows that it can take you away from your game.

Yeah, you may be right considering Efren's humble nature. Still, it's also a testament to Allison's strength and dominance in the sport that Efren's noticed her at all.
