Just got home from Durham, North Carolina and want to give a shout out to the gang at "The Green Room," which is Durham's finest poolroom. Thanks to the staff for showing me so much hospitality and to the players for welcoming me with open arms and treating me with friendship and respect.

As for the pool itself, three guys made sure I nearly always had a game when I arrived. Thanks to Mike and Bob for helping me keep my nine ball game sharp, and thanks to Tom for those very enjoyable games of straight pool.

I'm always glad to get home to my beloved New York City and my friends at Amsterdam Billiards, but I'll miss "The Green Room" and the friends that I made there. If you are ever in or near Durham, don't forget to check out "The Green Room" on Broad Street. The pool, the people and the atmosphere are all top notch.

Forgot to mention one thing. At "The Green Room,", when you offer a gratuity for good service, the staff are so grateful that they ring a bell situated above their cash register.

They do appreciate their customers.

That's nice of you Stu to give them a shout-out. I live @ 45 minutes from there and never heard of it. What kind and how many tables do they have? I googled it but came up empty on that. They have a crappy myspace and facebook page. No website... Not sure why they don't put a little attention into free advertising...

Yo Green Room - you might want to consider putting up pic's and info on Facebook. Add a subscriber function and send out e-newsletters via mailchimp or constant contact (free service too) with specials, events, etc... Just a thought.

This thread brings back some fond memories. Just a couple miles away from the Green Room was a place called Jump Shots. It was run by two Lebanese brothers and was a pool room, a real smoky pool room. In the summer when it was hot and sticky they would open up the doors to let the stink out and the heat in, this was their form of air conditioning. There was a great looking fun southern girl that worked most nights called Christy Boobs, no you don't need to ask. She was just one of a cast of characters, one older gentlemen named Gerald was one of my favorites. He was pretty quiet most times but had his eye on everyone & everything. One night a drunk stupid white kid started mouthing off about the Aryan Society. It did not take long for that to go sideways on him as the locals started to call him boy and ask questions like, " don't them Aryans all live in Idaho?" Well the Lebanese brothers let him go on till the local boys had had there fun then they tossed him out back into the dumpster. We never saw him again. Then one night I walked in and the place was fairly crowded but only one table was playing. There was a small young gal playing sets for a thou race to 11 nine ball on the gambling table. She looked so out of place but was shooting strong and wining some. I spotted two large guys I had not seen before and knew they were there to watch her back so I asked, "who's the gal hustling?" Sarah Rousey was the answer! First time I got the pleasure of meeting her and seeing her match up. No backing down in that gal, she won my admiration and respect that night! Well anyway Jump Shots is gone and so is Oscar's in Chapel Hill and life goes on!
