The Great Southern Billliard Tour presents The Mid-Carolina Classic @ Breakers Sports Bar in Rock Hill, SC. With a talented field of 40 players, potential winners of the tournament consist of Gabe Owen, Larry Nevel, Mike Davis, Shannon Daulton, Sparky Ferrell, Jeff Abernathy, Eddie Little, & Greg Dix. Some first round match-ups that ended with upsets were:

Larry Nevel vs. Shannon Daulton
Nevel 9-0

Matt Reed vs. Gabe Owen
Reed 9-7

In round 2, Greg Dix and Eddie Little ran into each other with Little taking the victory by a score of 9-4. Eddie then had a win over Josh Johnson (9-4) to secure a place in the final 8 on the winners side.
Also, in round 2 Sparky Ferrell and Jeff Abernathy met with Sparky taking full control of the match beating him 9-2. Then Abernathy had a meeting on the one loss side with Gabe Owen, with Owen winning (9-4) and ending his hopes of another win on The Great Southern Billiard Tour.
Young gun Adam Pendley put up a good fight in a heated match against "The Truth" Larry Nevel on the winners side with Nevel winning by a narrow margin of 9-7. On the one loss side Adam then had to face yet another heavy hitter Gabe Owen and this time he was successful taking the win by a score of 9-6. Those were just a few highlights of todays festivities.

We hava a few AZ'ers in the house - it is great to have them. The two top lady finishers in the tourney were Katie Cowan and Christy Causey and they decided to split the $50. Congrats to both of them. The events will start back Sunday at 1:00 pm with a 2nd chance tournament also starting on Sunday @ 3pm open to any player not finishing in the money and all APA / BCA players. We have a full day of great pool in store tomorrow so if you happen to be close to Rock Hill, SC come out and watch some exciting matches. Until then....

Thanks for the great updates, Marge. It is so refreshing to read an informative post like this. It is EXACTLY what readers of this forum enjoy hearing about! Inquiring minds like to know what's going on at the tournaments, and you always deliver the goods!

Larry and Shannon faced off about an hour ago- I know I am getting slack. There match was very humorous- you could tell both had been playing all day. Shannon played bad and Larry played worse. After all of the mis-cues, scratches, amd missed balls - it really became funny b/c both players wanted to win so bad to have their chance at Iron Mike. In the end it became a double hill match with Larry again advancing to the finals.

The true double elimination finals is a very hard accomplishment for Larry. In the first set, he showed Mike that he will fight for the victory and yet another set of trophies. Larry beat him by a score of 9-7 and the 2nd set is underway. The score is 6-5 with Larry steadily running out on the 9 ft. Diamond. Stay tuned.................................

Down to the nitty gritty....... double hill for all of the cash!!! Davis breaking.... makes nothing!:eek: Safety play exchanged by both players...WOW Larry has him buried......................... Wait and see what happens- I will keep you all in suspense- look on AZ tomorrow to see who won!!:p

In the final game of the second set, at hill to hill, it appeared to be curtains for Nevel as Davis took a very makeable shot on a one-nine combination. Davis missed the combination and Larry went on to take that game for the tournament win.
