The Hustler on iTunes

Cool I just watched the Color of Money last night. Good movie. Never seen The Hustler though. I believe it also has Paul Newman in it...

I haven't seen it in color but I don't think color is the way to go for this movie (or any of those old movies originally filmed in b&w). I think that when you colorize old movies it gives them a garish look.

JakeDaSnake-- It is absolutey imperative you see The Hustler as soon as possible.

Personally, I think the TCOM is one of Scorsese's weaker efforts.

I think Tom Cruise ruined the movie myself, he acted like every drunk idiot in a bar. Guess it doesn't help that I don't like him much either.

I have this and The Color of Money on my Ipod. We ripped them from the DVDs and converted them. Pretty cool that it's on Itunes.

The editor of the Hustler was interviewed on Fresh Air the other day. Or I should say it was a rebroadcast from years ago. It was interesting to hear the insights of how the scenes were constructed from the editor's point of view.

I certainly hope not ...

Did they redo it in color? if so I've never seen it offered that way.

Man, that movie MUST be seen in original B & W only
to really be appreciated.

I hope they NEVER colorize it.

That would Blow Big Ones !!!

That's exactly the way he was supposed to act :) That's his hustle (which he isn't even doing on purpose)... people see him and think "drunk bar-banger dumbass kid" ...and they get out their wallets. Then he busts them. It's what Paul Newman recognized would make him a great hustler.

"oh and vince... keep the shirt. It's a nice touch."

Definitely see The Hustler. Without it, you won't completely understand Eddie's character in TCOM.

There are so many actors who could have made Vince and TCOM something special. In fact, Vince's first opponent, John Turturro, would have been great as Vince.

TCOM was something special. Aside from what it did for the industry there are many layers of depth in TCOM.

I seem to be in the minority who think that Cruise did a great job as the naive, brash but talented player who needed to be "seasoned" and trained 'like a racehorse' as Fast Eddie said to Carmen.

Cruise played the transformation perfectly from that naive gambler to a cold hustler good enough to snap off the rail in a major event.

And he put it back in Eddie's face perfectly to show him the price of manipulation. To teach him what it cost to rob a person of their dream to be the best without the hustle.

TCOM has so much depth and perhaps there were actors who could have played the part of Vince better but to me Tom Cruise did a great job of it and after seeing the movies dozens of times and listening to it on the Ipod several times I think that he nailed it.

Try listening to the movie instead of watching it. I found that to be a pretty cool experience.
