the hustlers

That may be the biggest problem, people who don't know this show is bullsh!t.
I hope they don't get the idea that is how pool players should act, sharking and yelling at each other acting the fool.

Lets just hope if anyone ever dose watch this train wreck, they don't go to their local pool room and try to emulate it. We all remember those guys twirling their cues after seeing the COM.

He let them be disappointed after they find out on thier own how boring pool has become
This is why people flock from thier church like rooms all over the country to the SBX where pool is actualy fun to watch

Like every other TV show. Even shows in the top 20 aren't liked or watched by everyone. You have six or more shows from Alaska. People that never been there and never lived in a cold climate tend to eat those shows up. I've been up in AK 3 times back when it was wild as hell once for 15 months. Mark G comes from AK. I'll bet he doesn't enjoy many if any of the made in AK shows. I like shows like the Pickers and Pawn Stars, where you can learn something. Nobody likes every show. Not everyone like every food, car, cue, chalk, tip, LOL. As long as enough people like it, that's all I care about. The show seems to have good sponsors at its start. Johnnyt

Good post Johnny as usual. This show is not for everyone, that's for sure. Is it good for pool in general, I think so. I would like to see a little more actual pool playing and show the full shot, not just a clip of the end result. But that's just me, not so much to critique here. I'm happy with it just the way it is, warts and all like I said earlier.

i think watching this show was more painful then having a tooth pulled. The fact they are going to portray clowery and dechaine as out of town hustlers is hilarious. Dechaine has never hustled a game in his life he only gambles when he's a 95% favorite lol an well don't know what to say about his so called road partner. The show needs people like scooter and his crew to make this or any reality series work. He is a true hustler

Scooter is too over the top for this show. That's my opinion.

I can remember back when The Hustler brought a bunch of "pool imposters" to the poolroom who looked the part, acted the part but couldn't really play. That meant paydays for guys like me.

It happened again to a lesser degree with the COM, but it still brought a lot of new blood to the poolrooms and many new upscale rooms opened up.

In that respect maybe. I know when I used to go to a lot of tournaments back when there was always action among the players. It took like one night of watching for the local players to want to get up and match up.

Jenn, Gregg, and I want to thank you for showing support instead of tearing it down. The forum doesn't realize that every single one of us are reading this. There is a ton of content on you tube or the streaming services of the big streamers If you want to see some top flight elite professional pool. This is a little different and kudos for getting it.

I'm loving it so far & have been telling my friends as well as sharing it on social media. It's awesome just to see a show about pool & pool players on television.

I don't know no one is going to hustle anyone on a TV show like this it just does not work. So Scooter and his side show antics won't play very well.

As for the out of town thing well yeah they are from Boston area. ( yeah Dechaine is from Maine) but has been in the Boston area for quite a while.

Boston vs. NY is always going to play well as friction. Yeah Mike Dechaine is a tournament sponsored but he is damn strong player. Jarrod Clowery is a damn strong player as well 8 to 10 years ago he was an Open level player. He took some time away from the game. He has picked it back up last few years. I think he mops the floor with anyone other than Dechaine on the show.

Yeah except the Street Outlaws actually appear to have the 10 fastest cars in Oklahoma. This list is not the 10 fastest people from NY.

I think it was just ehhh... and here comes my thoughts with more pros than cons.... but I really do hope it does well.

They were more caricatures than characters, trying to damn hard to be personalities. I mean, yeah, we all know those personalities that they are portraying but I just don't think hamming them up does any good for the show or the game. example: The annoying girlfriend was tantamount to nails on a chalk board every time her mouth opened.

Finnegan as the head of the 'list' (a la street outlaws style) of the 'best' players in NY was just ridiculous on it's face. This top 5 just don't have the firepower. If they got rid of the premise of them being the best and just had it as "The Steinway List" for some in house gambling and bragging rights it would sit a whole lot better with me

I love the poolroom as a backdrop for a show, I greatlyenjoy the banter and woofing that goes with making games, but most of that was obnoxious feeling to me. The exception to that was J-Bar and Dechaine making their game. That felt and looked right and more of that kind of interaction would go long way in my eyes. If the show actually kept it realistic the characters that viewers could get behind (or hate) would emerge. It's the forced part just irks me to no end.

Oh yeah speaking of irked WTF was up with the horrible editing of the game play? cutting from this ball to that in the wrong order. It made it so that there was no way to see real shooting, let alone a run out. How about showing a viewer the actual skills required to play well and win. Give me and the audience a way to appreciate some talent. Maybe a little bit of educational narration with some smart looking subtitles and graphics without dumbing it down so much would help. Most people actually like learning about something new, as JohnyT pointed out about American pickers and all the Alaska based shows. At no point and In no way did I feel I was actually watching a game. Is it wrong that I want to actually see some real pool in a reality show about pool?

I reallyreallyreally really want the show to do well. I just want it to show more of what the real pool scene is like. Not some bastardized hybrid of Lizard Lick Towng, South Beach Tow, and Street Outlaws on a pool table.

Well at least I have to give them credit for actually getting pool on TV. I hope it lasts and I hope it helps pave the way for more and more content and coverage. I don't want it cause any other similar projects that may in the pipeline to be squashed.

I thought the first episode was a little slow and my girl wasn't really interested, but she didn't have much of a choice. Once a bit more drama started up in the second show, she got interested and began picking people she liked and didn't like, even who she'd want to play/beat. I liked the speeding up of racks being run and a bit more focus on the ones that get iffy. Mike D did a pretty good job, too. Waiting to see you and Smiley play. Probably tune it in at the bar next week.

It would be really neat if somehow they get a cuemaker into the show and then create a spinoff. But the cuemaker has to be one of those slackers who take money up front, gives false promises, doesn't answer emails, etc.. Sounds like a hit.

Also in the neat, getting McCready, Strickland, Mizerack, and Barton in the show...well, maybe not Barton. Them guys can add value and color to the show.

I'm not so sure Mizerak would be a good choice now.

That would add a whole different spin to the show:D. I liked it a ton and am just happy pool is getting a little love on tv. And the fact that my buddy mikey is on it just makes it awesome.

Yeah you guys are right. I mean who wants to see Scooter play a team of a pro shooting one handed with a millionaire C player for 20k race to 3 getting the 7 out. Then when it's 2 games each he doubles the bet to 40k. The pro/millionaire team wins on an early billiard on a money ball and quits winner.

You'd all rather watch a vapid B player prance around running racks through the miracle of the editors cutting room floor. Sorry but if I put a pair of breasts on a tree, most of you would be interested.

I'm thinking that a lot of players can't be on the show due to the income tax.
