one of the many great things about the ipt, is that it march's to the beat of it's OWN drummer. there is going to be an offical ipt hall of fame. the greatest players over the years on the ipt will be in it's hall of fame, i like that idea. also, question~~~ who currently holds the highest run in 8-ball anywhere in the world? and can it be proven? so far david alcaide has the "offical" high run of the ipt 8-run outs in a row! in other cuesports, the record is this: torbjorun bloomdahl high run in 3-cushion billiards-32. willie mosconi high run in front of an auidence-526 balls in a row, (by the way he didn't miss his 527th. ball! instead, he looked at the crowd and said, "i'm tired" and unscrewed his cue!!!!!!!!! how many of you knew that!?? niels feijn holds the record in 9-ball 15 break and runs. stephen hendrey holds the record for the most century's in snooker, i believe it's over 100 in front of an auidence,spanning his careear. so anyhow, back to the matter at hand, i guess we could say, david alcaide is the offical leader in break and runs in the ipt 8-ball tournament.

Hendry has many more than that but you probably should have listed the highest snooker break instead of most centuries, or most centuries in a row. I also think your wrong about mosconi but I'll let others comment on that. 8 in a row is fantastic but I'm sure its nowhere near a world record.

Mosconi did miss, I was at one of his exhibitions a couple of years after the run and he described the shot he missed when someone in the audience asked about the run. That putting down the cue thing because he was tired he began saying many years later. I tend to believe what he said around the time the run took place, he would have had no reason to make up that he missed.
There seemed to be quite a lot of racks being run at Weert, even though there were only 2 six-packs or better. Van den Berg with 6 and Alcaide with 8. There were a few 5 packs I heard mention of.
I wonder if the pockets were regulation IPT 4.5".
It will be good to have a standard pocket in IPT events so performances can be compared and contrasted in the future. I do feel it is significantly easier to run racks on fast cloth with near 5" pockets. It doesn't just help with wet-breaking (making a ball on the break), but many misses that otherwise rattle out, rattle in instead and it's easier to move the CB around the table.

not sure if its relavent but I played in the 8 ball quals in weert last sept and struggled badly to make a ball on the break. The tables are tapped for 9 ball and we had to use the oppisite ends as I think the tapped holes where not in the right place. If they sued the same tables and slower cloth 8 racks in a row was very good, the pockets seemed pretty normal to me, nothing big about them
i talk with charles ursetti every tuesday night at my pool hall near me, in flushing, for those unaware, charles is the offical head ref of the ipt, and he was willie mosconi's personal assistant/mgr for the last 12 years of his life, anyway, charlie told me that willie ran in the 500's many times, and always ended up unscrewing his cue, turning to charlie and saying, i'm tired! once charlie witnessed a 599, and you guessed it, he turned to charlie and said, i'm tired!, and it is talked of, though never verified mosconi ran into the 600's!!

I was like a stalker and traveled to as many of his shows and saw him must be over a 100 to 150 times I would guess. What I said came right from Mosconi's mouth. He said he missed a cross table shot with the ball about one and a half diamonds up the rail and the cue ball by the other side pocket. As far as Charlie, after a while they say so many things they can't remember what is truth any more and what they made up they have repeated it so many time. What Mosconi said just shortly after the fact, I tend to believe.

not true, mosconi could STILL play straight pool, maybe not 9-ball, but straight he could play.

He was losing challenge matches with people in the audience and getting furious, his daughter who was with him had to calm him down. When he set up his standard break shot and tried to run balls he could not get through the second rack. After several tries he finally apologized to the audience, who were getting very uncomfortable because the way he was acting, saying he was a little punchy and tired from the trip.
He was like 75 years old, no one expected anything from him just an autograph and to meet a legend, but he, I guess from so many years of doing so, wanted to play, but it just wasn't there. I don't know what else to tell you. I only answered your post because there is no reason to perpetuate this myth Mosconi was running 500 balls in his 70's when it just isn't true. The Internet has enough misinformation, lets at least try to keep it real here.

Charlie was also one of the very best pool event promoters over the years, and, if memory serves, was the brain behind the successful Fats vs Mosconi Challenge on ABC's Wide world of Sports.
In addition, Charlie was the tournament director of the PPPA, the major professional tour that lasted from 1976-86.
Glad to see you including his name in your post, Bernie, for he has really contributed a lot to our sport.
