The Jedi Cue by PFD Studios

I've had the pleasure of knowing Paul Drexler before he was world renowned.
He was always kind enough to do work on either my Huebler or Scruggs cues as well as make shafts for them and of course always did a smashing job.
I always wanted to have Paul make a cue for me, but 1) I wasn't sure I could afford one and 2) I hadn't finished designing the cue in my mind.
Paul's cues are surprisingly affordable. As far as the design process, Paul basically elicited frome me what I wanted even though I wasn't aware I already knew.

I wanted something old school, something that held the spirit of a "Bushka Trubute", yet something that only the cutting edge technology & unparalleled craftmanship that is PFD Studio's could pull off.
I wanted a cue that reflected not only my love of Pool, but also hinted something about me. Paul & Ellen were able to co-create the vision and make it a fabricated reality.

Here it is.

The Jedi Cue is Oak Burl, with Ebony points.
The symbol at the bottom of the Butt is the icon of the Jedi Order.
The inlay in the Ebony points is the star-spire from the Jedi Order icon.
It was Paul's suggestion to do them in polished pure Silver as opposed to Juma, or Micarta. I think it's what makes the cue so visually stunning
The Ring work is silver as well.
The wrap is black with silver specks...something Paul had made special for PFD Studios long before the Pressed Irish Linen well forever dried up.
The shafts are OB-1+ (from blanks ordered by Paul) w/ Kamui Medium clear Brown tips
The joint is Uni-loc.
The cue weighs circa 19.475 ounces.
And yes, it plays like a dream.

And oh, yeah, I almost forgot...I ordered it in 1989 and Paul just finished it this past weekend (not really)

The Jedi Cue

Thanks all for the kind words - yes, my wife Ellen makes me look good - it is her patience and skill that makes all the fine detail happen. Minor corrections: the front of the cue is OAK burl, possibly one of the more unusual examples of the "exotic" woods we have acquired - and the inlays are PURE silver (versus Sterling). Thanks Steve for the opportunity to make you something special after all these years - enjoy. Paul

Great cue. I generally don't like oak in a cue...that oak is amazing.

As for PFD, I was amazed to find out where his secondary market prices are, as well as his new prices. IMHO his work is under-valued.

He does great work. An excellent cue maker, and a talented artist.

Thanks for showing off! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Sweet we don’t have inclusion of American hardwoods nearly enough....

That said a friend who had the oldest registered tree with the live oak society around Lafayette la....the tree fell during a storm and heavy flood last year.

It’s full of curl and burl and will be an ongoing project to process it all for the lumber.

Oak and live oak are two diff beasts....live oak is much stronger and denser than the rest. Weighs in at about 60+ lbs /cf.....high compression numbers as well.

Numbers on it are close to the rosewood family.

Mark my words in my lifetime live oak may become a go to for cuemakers as exotic availability is decreased and prices increased due to extinction dangers and/or bans all together

Here’s a good example of some curly old growth Live Oak showing the quartersawn rays.

Not really trying to hijack this thread but with Paul bringing the species up I dig some of y’all might be interested that I’ll have a large quantity at my disposal.

That board is planed and flat, just has a little oil coating
